Around 200 flights are experiencing delays at Palma airport due to the arrival of rain and storms. The City Council has closed several public spaces between 12:00 and 16:00.
This Sunday, Palma airport is recording nearly 200 delayed flights due to the weather alert activated in Mallorca. According to data from Aena, as of 10:30, there were 208 delayed operations —104 departures and 104 arrivals— for both national and international connections, although no flights have been cancelled so far.
The change in weather has arrived after several days of intense heat. The first storms entered through the Serra de Tramuntana around 08:00. In Sóller, at that time, 6.7 litres per square metre had accumulated, of which 2.5 fell in just ten minutes.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) initially activated an orange alert for rain and storms across Mallorca, with a severity index of 1 (IG-1) from the Meteobal Plan. Accumulations of up to 40 litres per square metre were expected within an hour, with the possibility of hail. After 11:00, Aemet downgraded the alert to yellow, with forecasts of 25 litres per square metre in an hour.
The Palma City Council has decreed the preventive closure of the Ribera, Can Terrers, and the Passeig Sagrera between 12:00 and 16:00, due to the weather alert activated by Emergencias 112.
Emergencias 112 recommends that citizens secure doors and windows to prevent water from entering homes and remove objects from balconies. It also advises against going to flood-prone areas such as basements or garages. If water enters the home, the main electricity switch should be turned off.
For those who need to travel by road, Emergencias advises moderating speed, maintaining a safe distance, and preferably using main routes, taking extra caution due to possible water accumulation.
The weather situation continues to evolve, and rain is expected to persist over the coming hours. Emergency services remain on alert to address any incidents.
