The third edition of Sa Batummm, organised by the Colla de Dimonis de la Fil·loxera de l'Infern, will gather 450 percussionists from 30 Balearic municipalities and from Girona, Barcelona, and France from 25th to 27th July.
Binissalem is preparing to resonate with the sound of drums. The third edition of Sa Batummm, the cultural gathering promoted by the Colla de Dimonis de la Fil·loxera de l'Infern, will bring together over 450 percussionists from 32 groups across 30 municipalities of the Balearic Islands, along with invited groups from Girona, Barcelona, and France. The event will take place from 25th to 27th July.
Training Workshops and Community
The project was born in 2024 under the guidance of Tomeu Alorda, Hugo Sifuentes, and Antoni Pons, with the aim of creating a space for community and learning around popular culture. The initiative brings together people and groups linked to giants, fire beasts, demons, and percussion.
During the morning and much of the afternoon, participants will take part in training workshops aimed at improving their knowledge and skills in percussion. Participation is open to individuals as well as groups, without the need to belong to any prior organisation. This allows any resident of Binissalem or other municipalities to join the experience.
Parade and Final Performance
The day culminates with a parade through the streets of Binissalem, structured in two routes that converge in the church square. The giant parade starts from the Parc del Resquelli, while the fire beasts parade departs from the Escola Graduada. The closing event includes a final performance in the square, where all participants play a piece learned during the day alongside an invited group.
For attendees, the show is free and open to the public. It is recommended to arrive early to enjoy the atmosphere and the route, which will fill the historic centre's streets with rhythm.
Record Participation and International Projection
This edition marks a record participation, with over 450 confirmed percussionists, surpassing last year's figure. The presence of groups from Girona, Barcelona, and France solidifies Sa Batummm as a key event in the island's cultural calendar. Binissalem thus becomes the epicentre of percussion for three days, attracting visitors from all over Mallorca and beyond.
The organisers highlight that the event not only promotes music and tradition but also boosts the local economy. The bars and restaurants in the municipality expect an increase in clientele over the weekend, and the Town Hall has strengthened cleaning and security services for the occasion.
For lovers of popular culture, it is a unique opportunity to see giants, fire beasts, and dozens of drums in unison. And for those who prefer a more relaxed plan, there is always the option to sit on a terrace in the square and let the rhythm envelop them. After all, few things are more Mallorcan than a good parade.
The gathering kicks off on Friday 25th July morning with the workshops, and on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th, the parades and final performance will take place. The full programme can be consulted on the social media of the Colla de Dimonis de la Fil·loxera de l'Infern.
