Swimming from the Illes Balears has made a historic performance at the Spanish Championship, where its representatives have amassed a total of 11 medals —three golds, four silvers, and four bronzes— and 22 appearances in finals. The delegation, composed of 34 swimmers (23 men and 11 women) from 12 clubs, competed in 87 individual events.
Among the standout names is Tiago del Po Vica from C.N. Felanitx, who was crowned Spanish champion for 16-year-olds in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.47, also setting a new best territorial mark for the category. His performance marks a milestone for the Felanitx club and confirms the good moment of the Balearic talent pool.
Alejandro Rodríguez Cabellos from C.N. Palma de Mallorca also secured the national title by winning the 50-meter butterfly for 17-year-olds with a time of 24.69. The Mallorcan swimmer completed his participation with a silver medal in the 200-meter butterfly, stopping the clock at 2:05.24.
In the women's category, Beth Abad Núñez, also from C.N. Palma de Mallorca, was the star by winning four medals. Abad was crowned Spanish champion for 18-year-olds in the 200-meter freestyle (2:04.71), came second in the 400-meter individual medley (4:58.34), and earned two bronzes in the 200-meter butterfly (2:21.33) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:25.92).
The backstroke specialty had Aina Tomás Tomás, also from C.N. Palma, as its main reference, achieving silver in the 200-meter backstroke for 18-year-olds (2:20.67) and bronze in the 100-meter backstroke (1:05.27). Joana Maria Sierra Riera won silver in the 1,500-meter freestyle for 18-year-olds with a time of 17:37.20, while Emily Czaja took bronze in the 50-meter butterfly for 16-year-olds with 28.06.
C.N. Palma de Mallorca concentrated a good part of the top positions, while the national title and the best territorial mark achieved by Tiago del Po Vica confirmed the excellent performance of C.N. Felanitx. The presence of twelve clubs also reflects the breadth and diversity of the Balearic representation in the national competition.
For Mallorcan fans, these results are a source of pride and a demonstration of the work being done in the island's pools. Balearic swimmers have shown their ability to compete at the highest level and have put the name of the community at the top of the national scene.
