A blind pitbull attacks a woman in Palmanyola, causing fractures in both arms

A woman was seriously injured after being attacked by a blind pitbull belonging to a friend when she was taking it to a veterinary clinic in Palmanyola. The dog caused her to break the ulna and radius in both arms and inflicted severe injuries to her chest.

The attack occurred around 10:40 am on Monday at a veterinary clinic in Palmanyola, in the municipality of Bunyola. The victim, who was about to take the animal for a check-up, suffered bites that resulted in fractures in both arms and injuries to her chest that required surgical reconstruction.

A blind pitbull triggers the attack

The dog, a blind pitbull owned by a friend of the victim, lunged at her when she was about to put on the muzzle. According to sources from the investigation, the animal was inside a cage, and the attack occurred when it was taken out. The bites were so violent that they broke the ulna and radius in both arms, in addition to causing injuries to her chest.

The veterinary clinic immediately alerted emergency services. Officers from the Local Police of Bunyola arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area to prevent the dog from escaping and attacking more people. Paramedics stabilized the victim, who had serious and heavily bleeding wounds, and transported her to Son Espases Hospital in Palma.

Emergency surgical intervention

At the hospital, the woman underwent emergency surgery. Surgeons treated the fractures in both arms and performed a reconstruction of the chest, which had been severely damaged by the bites. The patient remains hospitalized, although her condition has not been disclosed.

Meanwhile, officers from the Local Police contained the dog until the staff from the Centre for the Protection of Domestic Animals (Cepad) of Naturaparc arrived. The animal was taken to the facilities in Santa Eugenia, where it has been quarantined following established protocols. Measures regarding the pitbull will now be considered.

This incident reignites the debate over the ownership of potentially dangerous dogs, especially those with disabilities such as blindness, which can react unpredictably. The victim, a local resident, faces a long recovery following the surgeries.
