The club from Calvià scored 91 points in A Coruña, with stellar performances from Lita López and Carmen Rodríguez.
The Sporting Calvià has once again demonstrated that experience counts. The club, presided over by Manolo Mogollón, won the bronze medal in the Spanish Master Championship of Second Division, held at the university tracks of Elviña in A Coruña. With a total of 91 points, the Mallorca team represented their region well in a competition that brought together the best clubs in the category.
Lita López, double victory and personal bests
One of the standout names of the weekend was undoubtedly Lita López. The athlete from Sporting Calvià triumphed in the 80 metre hurdles with a time of 12.59 and in the 300 metre hurdles with 47.58. Not only did she win: in both events, she achieved a personal best, demonstrating that her form is impeccable. For the residents of Calvià, seeing a local athlete shine at a national level is a source of pride that fills the stands with excitement.
But López was not the only one to reach the top of the podium. Carmen Rodríguez took gold in the 3,000 metre walk with a time of 17:41.46, while Susana Fernández did the same in the 2,000 metre steeplechase with 7:45.10. Three victories that contributed crucial points for the final third place.
Silver and bronze to complete the tally
The medal count for Sporting Calvià did not stop there. Gemma Clar won silver in the long jump (4.51 metres) and bronze in the triple jump (8.75). Natalia Fernández also finished second in the 800 metres with 2:30.34, and Leticia Ferrà repeated her position in the pole vault after clearing 2.20 metres. Each of these results showcases the depth of the club's squad.
In the men's category, Atlas de Palma finished in seventh place, completing a remarkable participation from the Balearic clubs in the Galician event. Sa Raval de Eivissa, on the other hand, came second, aided by the Mallorcan Amaia Marcilla (Pegasus), who ran the 200 metres in 27.41.
A bronze that feels glorious for local sports
For the municipality of Calvià, this third place is not just a sporting result: it is a boost for grassroots athletics and a morale boost for the more than 200 club members. Sporting Calvià, founded over two decades ago, has become a benchmark for master sports in the Balearics, and this national bronze confirms that. Fans are already dreaming of promotion to the First Division, although for now, it’s time to enjoy the success.
The competition, held last weekend, brought together clubs from all over Spain in an atmosphere of healthy rivalry. For the local athletes, the trip to A Coruña involved logistical and financial effort, but the result was worth it. The next challenge for Sporting Calvià will be to maintain their level in regional competitions and, who knows, perhaps fight for the national title again next year.
