The goalkeeper of Illes Balears Palma Futsal shared a morning with the participants of the summer campus. The visit was attended by the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés.
The Brazilian goalkeeper of Illes Balears Palma Futsal, Luan Muller, became the star guest of the Fundació Miquel Jaume Summer Campus this Friday. The meeting took place at the Poliesportiu Sant Ferran in Palma, where the goalkeeper answered questions from the youngest and shared his experience as an elite athlete.
The day began with an institutional welcome led by the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, who was accompanied by the second vice president and councillor for Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, and the island director of Sports, Toni Prats. They all wanted to show their support for this initiative that brings professional sports closer to the island's youth.
A goalkeeper who inspires with humility
Luan Muller, who is undergoing a recovery process, did not hesitate to talk to the children about the importance of effort and perseverance. “Sport teaches you to get up every day, even when it hurts,” explained the goalkeeper, according to sources from the campus. The children, attentive to every word, took the opportunity to ask him about his career and the most difficult moments he has faced.
The Brazilian, who joined Palma Futsal in 2023, has become a role model for the youth academy. His approachability and naturalness during the visit left a mark on the attendees, who eagerly asked for autographs and photos. The activity is part of a special guest programme that allows young people to interact with first team players.
The Consell supports grassroots sports
The presence of the president of the Consell de Mallorca was not coincidental. Llorenç Galmés highlighted the collaboration between the island institution and Palma Futsal to promote healthy habits among the youth. “It is a joy to see how elite sports come closer to children in such a direct way,” Galmés noted, according to sources from the visit. The Consell has been promoting sports programmes in the island's municipalities for years, and this campus is an example of that.
The island director of Sports, Toni Prats, reminded everyone that the Poliesportiu Sant Ferran is a key space for sports practice in Palma. “Many of the future talents of Balearic futsal are trained here,” he stated. The facility, managed by the Consell, hosts activities for children aged 6 to 14 throughout the summer.
A campus that goes beyond futsal
The Fundació Miquel Jaume Summer Campus does not only focus on futsal. Participants also engage in workshops on values, teamwork, and healthy living habits. Luan Muller's visit helped reinforce these messages in a fun and relatable way. “Children need role models who speak to them from experience,” explained a spokesperson for the campus.
For parents, the initiative provides relief during the school holidays. Many took the opportunity to visit the sports centre and see their idol up close. “My son hasn’t stopped talking about Luan since he got home,” a mother commented with laughter. The campus, which will run until the end of August, still has spots available for the coming weeks.
The day concluded with a group photo in which Luan Muller was surrounded by dozens of smiling children. A gesture that, for many, is worth more than any title. Indeed, sometimes the true goal is not scored on the pitch, but in the hearts of the little ones.
