The Council of Mallorca has completed the rehabilitation works of the Costa Nord complex in Valldemossa, with an investment of 750,000 euros from European funds. The project aims to turn the space into a sustainable cultural and tourist reference.
The Council of Mallorca has announced the completion of the rehabilitation of the Costa Nord complex in Valldemossa, a project that has mobilised 750,000 euros of European funds. The president of the island institution, Llorenç Galmés, visited the facilities on Friday accompanied by the mayor of Valldemossa, Nadal Torres, and representatives from the Government and the municipality.
The intervention is part of the Sustainable Tourism Plans in Destinations, financed through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR). The aim is to adapt the complex to sustainability criteria, improve its energy efficiency, and modernise its infrastructure to expand its cultural use.
Improvements in efficiency and accessibility
Among the most notable actions is the renovation of the heating and lighting systems, as well as the improvement of the production of sanitary hot water. Photovoltaic panels and an automated energy management system have been installed to optimise consumption.
The reform has also included the remodelling of the stage and the dressing room area, the replacement of the flooring and various pavements, and the installation of retractable or removable seating. The sound and lighting equipment in the auditorium has been completely renewed.
These improvements not only reduce the environmental impact of the venue but also make it more accessible and versatile for hosting all types of events. The residents of Valldemossa will be able to enjoy a more modern and efficient space, with a cultural programme expected to expand throughout the year.
A symbol of Mallorcan heritage
During the visit, Galmés highlighted that the recovery of Costa Nord "is much more than a rehabilitation of a space", as it allows for the recovery of a symbol of Mallorca's tourist, cultural, and social heritage. The goal is to project it into the future with sustainability, innovation, and quality criteria.
"It is much more than a rehabilitation of a space. It allows for the recovery of a symbol of Mallorca's tourist, cultural, and social heritage and projects it into the future with sustainability, innovation, and quality criteria."
The president of the Council argued that the venue should again become a reference point for both the residents of Valldemossa and for the celebration of internationally projected cultural activities. The idea is for it to contribute to diversifying the tourist offer and generate activity outside of the high season.
According to the island institution, the rehabilitation will allow for the recovery of the historical prominence of the auditorium and reconcile an international cultural programme with the sociocultural activities of the municipality.
A boost for sustainable tourism
Costa Nord, located in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, is a complex with a long history as a cultural and tourist centre. With this investment, the Council is betting on a development model that prioritises sustainability and quality over quantity. The installation of photovoltaic panels and the energy management system are examples of how to reduce the ecological footprint without giving up cultural activity.
For the residents of Valldemossa, the rehabilitation represents an opportunity to enjoy a renovated auditorium with more programming options. The town hall is already working on planning events that take advantage of the new facilities, aiming to attract visitors even in the months of lower tourist influx.
The works, which have lasted several months, have been carried out by local companies, generating employment in the area. The Council is confident that the investment will yield a positive return in economic and social terms for the entire island.
