Independents per sa Pobla has joined Coalició per Mallorca following the unanimous approval of its governing bodies. The party will be the candidate representing the municipality in the upcoming local elections, while maintaining its local identity.

The agreement, driven by the mayor of sa Pobla, Biel Ferragut, the president of Independents, Xisco Bonnín, and the coordinator of Coalició per Mallorca, Joan Serra, was ratified unanimously. The integration will allow the local formation to present itself under the umbrella of the island coalition, preserving its name and its own project.

An alliance to face shared challenges

According to both formations, the union responds to the need to combine forces in the face of challenges such as demographic pressure, access to housing, land preservation, rising living costs, and the defence of Mallorca's identity. Ferragut described the alliance as a "natural evolution" of the municipal project and stated that "it is time to combine efforts to better defend Mallorca."

The mayor emphasised that many issues affecting sa Pobla are of an island-wide nature, so the coalition will strengthen the defence of the municipality's and the island's interests. Bonnín, for his part, highlighted the shared values between the two formations, defining Coalició per Mallorca as "a serious, cross-cutting project focused on defending the interests of Mallorca."

Preserving local identity and gaining influence

Bonnín explained that the incorporation allows Independents per sa Pobla to maintain its identity while "gaining political influence." The candidate of Coalició per Mallorca for the Presidency of the Govern, Pere Sánchez, stated that the integration consolidates the formation as a political alternative at the island level. Sánchez affirmed that more and more people share the need for a political force focused exclusively on defending the interests of the people of Mallorca.

With this agreement, Coalició per Mallorca continues to expand its territorial presence with the incorporation of new municipal formations ahead of the next electoral cycle. For the residents of sa Pobla, the alliance means that their local vote will be directly linked to an island-wide project, without losing the municipal essence.

Next steps and electoral context

The agreement is already in effect, and the joint candidacy will be formally presented in the coming months. Ferragut assured that the coalition will allow for "better defence of sa Pobla from a broader perspective." The integration occurs at a time when several local formations are seeking alliances to face the 2027 elections with greater political weight.

For citizens, the main change is that the ballot for Independents per sa Pobla will be integrated into that of Coalició per Mallorca, which could translate into more resources and institutional support. The local formation will maintain its autonomy in municipal decisions but will align with the island strategy on key issues such as housing and land.
