A group of Colombian youths occupies the old kiosk in Krekovic park to drink, play loud music, and relieve themselves outdoors, in broad daylight and in front of dozens of children.
Discontent is growing among the residents of the Palma neighbourhood of Nou Llevant due to the recurring presence of a group of Colombian youths who have taken over Krekovic park. According to the residents' complaints, these individuals —around 20 years old— go to the abandoned old kiosk to consume alcohol, play music at an excessive volume, and relieve themselves outdoors, all in broad daylight and in view of minors playing in the area.
Images shared by the residents themselves show men and women gathered around the booth, which has been closed for years but can be easily accessed by lifting the shutters, with no locks or effective security systems in place. The former family meeting point, where families used to go for snacks, has turned into a hub of unsanitary conditions and noise.
Eyewitnesses claim that the youths spend long hours drinking to the rhythm of loud music, while dozens of teenagers and children pass through the park. The abandonment of the kiosk has facilitated the recurring occupation of the space, which also accumulates graffiti, dirt, and vandalism since its closure.
Residents have been reporting the situation to the Palma City Council for months, but so far they have not received a definitive solution. Krekovic park is one of the main green areas in the neighbourhood, very popular with families, and the situation is creating an atmosphere of insecurity and discomfort.
The Nou Llevant residents' association has requested an urgent meeting with the Department of Citizen Security to address the problem. They demand that police surveillance in the area be reinforced and that the kiosk be effectively closed to prevent further occupations.
The City Council, for its part, has stated that it is aware of the situation and that patrols by the Local Police in the park have been increased, although residents believe that the measures are insufficient. The lack of maintenance of urban furniture and the absence of adequate perimeter fencing facilitate the recurrence of the problem.
This incident adds to other episodes of incivility in the same area, which have led residents to organise to demand a comprehensive solution. Krekovic park needs urgent rehabilitation that includes the recovery of the kiosk as a public use space, with activities for children and families, as proposed by the residents.
In the meantime, residents recommend avoiding the area of the old kiosk, especially in the afternoon hours when the group's presence is more common. The situation, they warn, not only affects coexistence but also the healthiness of the park.
