Ten people have been arrested in Manacor for drug trafficking. The National Police have seized one kilo of marijuana buds, 550 plants, 40 grams of cocaine, and €27,500 in cash.

The National Police have dismantled a criminal organisation in Manacor dedicated to drug trafficking that distributed 50 grams of cocaine a day in the Llevant region. The ten detainees, aged between 25 and 50, were arrested in a simultaneous operation at several properties in the city.

The agents seized one kilo of marijuana buds, 550 plants in the growth phase, 40 grams of cocaine ready for sale, and €27,500 in cash. Additionally, several illegal connections to the electrical grid were detected to power the indoor crops.

The technology that exposed the illegal cultivation

The investigation began months ago when the electricity company alerted about anomalous consumption in several homes in Manacor. The agents used thermal measurement and consumption analysis equipment to locate the exact points of the indoor crops.

The plantations required high voltage for lamps and ventilation systems, which generated disproportionate consumption. By cross-referencing the data with the electricity company, illegal connections that bypassed the meter were identified.

This technical method, combined with discreet surveillance, allowed mapping of the properties without alerting the suspects. The simultaneous raid on the properties took place in the early hours of last Thursday.

A business that saved on basic expenses

The ten arrested face charges of drug trafficking, belonging to a criminal group, and electricity fraud. Investigators estimate that the gang had been operating in the area for at least a year.

The ringleader, a 42-year-old resident of Manacor with a criminal record, coordinated the distribution from an apartment in the city centre. The other members were responsible for cultivation, sales, and logistics. The organisation did not have a fixed sales location but operated through home deliveries and variable contact points.

For the local residents, the operation is a relief. "There was strange movement of cars at all hours," explained a resident who preferred to remain anonymous. "Now we can finally sleep peacefully."

The National Police have requested the detention of the ten arrested individuals, who will be brought before a judge in the coming days. The investigation remains open to determine if there are more involved.
