The Valencian Generalitat extends the lockdown in Onda until Tuesday at 23:59 due to the active wildfire in the areas of Tales, Alcudia de Veo and Aín.
The Integrated Operational Coordination Centre (CECOPI) decided on Monday to maintain the preventive lockdown of the population of Onda until 23:59 on Tuesday, July 28. The Valencian Generalitat will publish a new executive order on Monday night to formalise the extension, which only exempts essential services.
The fire, which started last weekend, remains highly intense in the municipalities of Tales, Alcudia de Veo and Aín. Emergency authorities have reported that any changes in the situation will be communicated immediately through official channels.
The Onda Town Council insists on the importance of respecting the lockdown and following the instructions of security personnel. They recommend the use of FFP2 masks due to the presence of smoke, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions or chronic illnesses.
Public buildings in the municipality will remain closed on Tuesday, except for essential and basic services. The Municipal Pavilion of Onda continues to operate to accommodate evacuees from neighbouring municipalities for the duration of the emergency.
The mayor of Onda, Carmina Ballester, has publicly thanked the citizens and the local business community for their responsibility and exemplary behaviour during the crisis. "They are demonstrating extraordinary cooperation," she stated in a press release.
The wildfire, which has already devastated hundreds of hectares, remains uncontrolled. Emergency personnel are working under adverse conditions to contain the flames, while the confined residents await updates in their homes.
For residents of Mallorca, although the fire does not directly affect the island, the situation serves as a reminder of the importance of prevention during high-risk fire periods. Local authorities recommend taking extra precautions in forested areas and following the instructions of emergency services.
