The International Music Festival of Deià continues its programme with two highlighted events: Muqi Zhang will perform on August 5 at Son Marroig and Lixin Zhang on August 7 at the Palau March in Palma.
The XLVIII International Music Festival of Deià maintains its commitment to young talent with two piano concerts scheduled for the first week of August. Chinese pianist Muqi Zhang will perform on Wednesday, August 5 at Son Marroig, while Lixin Zhang will take the stage at the Palau March on Friday, August 7.
Both performers are part of the festival's initiative that annually showcases artists awarded in international competitions. Eighteen-year-old Muqi Zhang began studying piano at the age of five and in 2024 enrolled at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He has accumulated several awards, including second prize at the XXII International Competition 'Tribute to Alexander Goldenweiser' in Russia and first prize at the Shanghai Open Piano Competition.
Before arriving in Mallorca, Zhang had already performed on stages in Germany, Italy, Austria, Russia, and China. At Son Marroig, he will perform a programme featuring works by Händel, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Ravel, and Rachmaninoff. The concert will begin at 20:30.
Meanwhile, Lixin Zhang will give a recital in the auditorium of the Palau March, also at 20:30. His repertoire will include pieces by Robert Schumann and Sergei Prokofiev. According to the festival director, Alfredo Oyagüez, the pianist is noted for his immense interpretative sensitivity and the expressive power of his performance. The acoustics and layout of the Palau March, Oyagüez adds, will contribute to an experience that combines refined technique and emotion for the attendees.
Staying true to its philosophy, the festival pays tribute to its founder, Patrick Meadows, and includes the III International Piano Forum as a space for reflection and creation, which will be held at the Fundació Joan i Pilar Miró.
The summer concert cycle of the Deià Festival takes place in iconic venues such as Son Marroig, the auditorium of the Fundació Joan i Pilar Miró, and the Palau March in Palma. The programme continued on July 29 with a performance by the duo formed by Bea Galán and Dina Nedelcheva, who offered the concert 'Summer Harmonies: Concert for Piano Four Hands' at Son Marroig, as part of the Euroregio Piano Series.
