The Local Police of Palma has concluded its participation in the special DGT campaign with 291 vehicles inspected and 54 fines. The expired ITV was the most common infraction.
The Local Police of Palma has closed its report on the latest special campaign of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), focused on controlling alcohol and drugs while driving. Between July 13 and 19, officers intercepted 291 vehicles at nine strategic points in the city, resulting in 54 fines for various irregularities.
Of the total infractions, 31 were for vehicles driving with expired Technical Vehicle Inspection (ITV), the most repeated offence. Additionally, seven fines were issued related to driving licenses, and one car was immobilised for lacking mandatory insurance.
On the criminal front, officers filed a report against a driver who significantly exceeded the permitted blood alcohol limit, and another administrative sanction was processed for a driver who tested positive for drugs. These actions were the main objective of the operation, although the review of documentation and the technical condition of vehicles broadened the scope of the operation.
"The goal is not only to remove from circulation those who consume substances but to ensure that all vehicles meet minimum safety standards," police sources stated. In this regard, two drivers were also fined for not using child restraint systems, two for not wearing seatbelts, and one for being distracted with a mobile phone.
The operation also affected personal mobility vehicles: two electric scooter users and a motorcyclist were fined for not wearing helmets. Additionally, a driver was reported for having a non-silenced exhaust pipe, an environmental offence. Concurrently, a report was filed for drug possession in public, under the Citizen Security Law.
These checks are part of the periodic campaigns by the DGT, aimed at reducing accidents on urban and interurban roads. In Palma, the Local Police has intensified its presence in areas of high traffic, especially during the summer months when mobility increases.
For Palma drivers, the recommendation is clear: check the ITV, carry the correct documentation, and above all, do not consume alcohol or drugs while driving. Authorities warn that checks will continue over the coming weeks, without prior notice, at various locations in the city.
