The Civil Guard has arrested eleven young people, some minors, accused of a wave of violent robberies in several municipalities of Mallorca. The agents searched a dozen homes and several gold buying shops where they allegedly sold the stolen jewellery.
The Civil Guard has detained eleven individuals, all men and some of them underage, as part of an operation against a youth gang accused of committing violent robberies in various locations in Mallorca. The arrests took place on Tuesday morning in several neighbourhoods of Palma, such as Son Gotleu, el Rafal, and the Polígono de Levante, where agents searched a dozen homes.
The investigation, led by the Judicial Police Team of the Civil Guard in Algaida, began after receiving numerous reports from citizens who had been assaulted in the street by young individuals acting with great violence. The robberies caused significant social alarm in several towns on the island.
During the searches, investigators seized numerous items of clothing that the robbers allegedly used during the assaults. Additionally, they inspected a gold buying establishment located on Manacor street, where they allegedly sold the jewellery stolen from the victims.
One of the detainees, according to sources consulted, attempted to run over a Civil Guard officer after committing one of the robberies. The agents conducted surveillance and follow-ups for weeks until they managed to identify and locate the gang members.
The operation resulted in eleven arrests, although further arrests are not ruled out in the coming days. The investigation remains under judicial secrecy, so no further details have emerged regarding the exact number of crimes attributed to the gang or the value of the stolen items.
The detainees will be brought before the court on duty this Wednesday. The Civil Guard has highlighted the importance of citizen collaboration in resolving the case, as many of the reports provided key information to identify the suspects.
Residents of the affected areas have expressed relief at the arrests, although some have voiced concerns about the recurrence of these crimes. The Civil Guard recommends exercising caution in public spaces and reporting any suspicious activity.
