The Civil Guard has arrested a man in his 30s accused of sharing a video of his ex-partner performing oral sex via his WhatsApp status. The victim's mother saw the images and alerted her daughter, who filed a complaint.
A neighbour from Sóller in his 30s has been detained by the Civil Guard after sharing a video on his WhatsApp status showing his ex-girlfriend performing oral sex on him. The arrested man, who denied the allegations before the judge, was released on provisional bail accused of a crime of discovery and revelation of secrets.
The events occurred last Sunday, after Spain won the football World Cup. Apparently, the man posted an intimate video of his ex-partner, with whom he had broken up at the end of June, on his WhatsApp profile. The woman's mother saw the content and, after taking screenshots, alerted her daughter, who recognised herself and decided to report it.
A broken relationship and a pregnancy
The couple had ended their relationship weeks earlier. The woman, who had become pregnant, blocked the man on social media. He tried to contact her through various channels to find out if she wanted to proceed with the pregnancy. On Sunday, before posting the video, he sent her a Bizum of 50 euros and wrote her a message, but she returned the money without replying.
It was then that the suspect uploaded the video to his WhatsApp status, where it remained visible for 24 hours. The victim's mother saw it and alerted her daughter, who filed a complaint with the Civil Guard. The agents identified the suspect and arrested him on Monday.
The detainee claims it was another partner
The arrested man, assisted by lawyer Jokin Erasmo, testified yesterday before the duty judge in Palma. He claimed that the woman in the video was not the complainant, but a former partner from 2023, and that he had uploaded the content unintentionally. However, the complainant recognised herself in the images and provided evidence, such as the screenshots taken by her mother.
The judge ordered his release with charges, pending further investigation. The crime of discovery and revelation of secrets can carry prison sentences of one to four years, according to the Penal Code. The victim, who resides in Sóller, has requested a restraining order.

This case highlights the importance of not sharing intimate content through messaging apps, as once disseminated, control over it is lost. The Civil Guard recommends immediately reporting any violation of privacy and preserving evidence, such as screenshots or messages.
For the residents of Mallorca, this incident underscores that justice acts swiftly in such cases. The woman has received psychological support and has been informed of the resources available on the island for victims of gender violence and sexual crimes.
