In a statement released this Thursday, Endavant justified the action as a direct response to what they consider a 'mercantilization and savage precariousness' of the housing market in Mallorca. According to the organization, real estate agencies act as 'a key piece' in an economic model based on speculation, destruction of the territory, and denial of social rights.
The group also links the graffiti to the 'repression and campaign of criminalization' that they claim to have suffered in recent days. Specifically, they refer to the detention of two young people accused by the Civil Guard of participating in graffiti against five real estate agencies in Santa Maria del Camí. 'Neither the disinformation nor the arrests will stop this type of action. Our people will continue to find ways to claim their rights,' the statement says.
Endavant has called for support for the demonstration scheduled for this Sunday by the platform 'Menys turisme, més vida', an entity that has already organized protests against mass tourism. The organization, which has little following, previously carried out a similar campaign years ago by placing reivindicative stickers on hundreds of vehicles.
The graffiti in Son Espanyolet adds to a series of protest actions against real estate speculation that have taken place in various parts of the island. Housing has become one of the main sources of social tension in Mallorca, where the price of rent and home purchases has seen a sustained increase in recent years.
The Palma City Council, for its part, has not yet commented on this incident, although municipal sources have confirmed that the Local Police has been notified to investigate the events. The affected real estate agency has declined to make a statement.
Endavant's action has generated mixed reactions among the residents of Son Espanyolet. While some criticize the methods of the independentist group, others show understanding towards the denunciation of speculation. 'I understand the frustration, but I do not agree with attacking private property,' said a local resident.
The debate over housing remains heated in Mallorca, where social and political groups of various kinds are calling for measures to curb rising prices and ensure access to decent housing. The demonstration on Sunday, called by 'Menys turisme, més vida', is expected to gather dozens of people in central Palma to demand a change in the economic model.
