The Marga Crespí municipal pool in Palma, which usually closes in August, will exceptionally open this month to provide an alternative for users due to the preventive closure of the Germans Escalas pools.
The Marga Crespí municipal pool in Palma will remain open throughout August, an exceptional measure that was also implemented last summer. The aim is to offer an alternative to users affected by the preventive closure of the pools at the Germans Escalas sports complex, which have been closed since July 2025.
The facility will maintain its usual hours: Mondays and Wednesdays, from 15:00 to 22:30; Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, from 08:00 to 22:30; and Saturdays, from 08:00 to 15:00. It will be closed on Sundays. During this period, no courses or aquatic activities will be held.
The closure of the Germans Escalas pools occurred following a technical report that alerted to safety risks for users. The report concluded that targeted actions were no longer sufficient and that a comprehensive intervention was necessary. Since then, the rest of the sports complex — gym, changing rooms, activity and fitness rooms, as well as the sports hall — has continued to operate normally.
The comprehensive renovation project for the Germans Escalas pools was presented last March. It will be executed in two phases and involves an investment of over 6 million euros. The action will ensure user safety, improve accessibility, and completely modernise the facilities.
The Palma City Council launched a relocation plan last summer for users affected by the closure. This August, the opening of the Marga Crespí pool is part of that plan, facilitating public access to a basic sports service during the summer period.
The Marga Crespí pool is located in the Son Gotleu neighbourhood, a densely populated area of Palma. This measure particularly benefits local residents, who are thus guaranteed an option for swimming without having to travel to other facilities. Additionally, regular users of the Germans Escalas pools can use this facility as an alternative.
The extended hours, opening at 08:00 from Tuesday to Saturday and until 22:30 on weekdays, allow for adaptation to different routines, whether for those seeking a morning swim or those preferring the afternoon or evening. On Saturdays, the hours are only in the morning, from 08:00 to 15:00.
The City Council reminds that the Marga Crespí pool will not offer courses or directed activities during August, so access will be exclusively for free swimming. Users should check the usage conditions and public prices on the municipal website or at the facility itself.
The comprehensive renovation of Germans Escalas, once completed, will restore full functionality to the pools, but in the meantime, the opening of Marga Crespí provides relief for the hundreds of users who have lost their main pool. The City Council has not specified whether this measure will be repeated in September, although all indications suggest that similar solutions will be sought while the works continue.
