Agents of the Local Police of Palma and Emaya workers have removed tons of debris and abandoned items that were obstructing passage in several streets of the Son Gotleu neighbourhood. The operation was deployed last Thursday afternoon.
The Local Police of Palma and the municipal company Emaya carried out an urgent cleaning operation in the Son Gotleu neighbourhood, where tons of debris and abandoned waste were blocking pedestrian traffic and posed a risk to road safety and public health. The intervention took place around 3:15 PM last Thursday on Pic d'Auñamendi, Pic Almanzor, and Puig de Teix streets.
During the inspection, the agents located an open-box truck parked on the public road, loaded with large capacity bags filled with debris from construction works. The police made inquiries in the nearby buildings to locate the owner of the vehicle and responsible for the dumping, but were unable to find him at that time.
Given the situation, urgent intervention from Emaya's brigades was requested, who proceeded to remove the waste. The agents inventoried the large amount of abandoned materials: construction debris and mortar, a large mattress, broken furniture, a car bumper, refrigerators filled with debris, the structure of a freezer, remnants of electrical insulation, pipes, and numerous bags of domestic rubbish.
The Emaya workers carried out the mechanised and manual loading of all inventoried waste, leaving the public road completely clean and restoring safety and health conditions in the area. The action has been positively valued by the neighbours, who had been reporting the problem for some time.
Taking advantage of the police deployment, a specific control of documentation and parking of vehicles parked in those streets was established. As a result, the agents processed a total of 31 administrative complaints. Of these, around twenty were for driving or being parked with an expired or unfavourable Vehicle Technical Inspection (ITV). Another seven were for lacking valid civil liability insurance, two for parking on the pavement obstructing pedestrian passage, and another two for parking in the traffic lane.
The Palma City Council has reminded that abandoning waste on public roads is prohibited and can lead to financial penalties. Furthermore, it has urged citizens to use clean points and the collection services for discarded items to avoid such situations, which generate issues of coexistence and risks to public health.
This intervention is part of the usual control and cleaning tasks carried out by the Local Police along with Emaya in various neighbourhoods of the city, aiming to maintain public space in optimal conditions and ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers.
