The coastal surveillance service of the Government has carried out nine inspections in Portocolom, with five reports for possible irregular chartering and illegal anchoring.
The coastal surveillance service of the Government conducted an inspection day in Portocolom, focused on detecting irregular chartering activities and ensuring compliance with anchoring regulations. During the operation, inspectors carried out a total of nine inspections and issued five reports, which will be analysed by the competent authorities to determine if administrative proceedings will be initiated.
Five of the inspections took place within the Port of Portocolom, where three reports were issued and four bulletins were released. The other four checks were carried out in the vicinity of the port, resulting in the two remaining reports. The General Director of Ports and Maritime Transport, Antoni Mercant, monitored the operation alongside the Deputy Mayor of Felanitx, Toni Peña, and the councillor of Portocolom, Melania Mesquida.
“Our goal is to ensure that nautical activity is conducted in an orderly and safe manner,” highlighted Mercant during the visit.
The Surveillance, Inspection and Control Service of the Coast has 22 vessels distributed across all the islands. The teams adapt their operational calendar to the detected needs and received communications, with special attention during the summer months when nautical activity intensifies.
In addition to controlling the irregular rental of vessels, the service checks aspects related to navigation and anchoring, and carries out information, prevention, and awareness-raising tasks among sea users. For the residents and visitors of Portocolom, these inspections reinforce safety along the coast and ensure an orderly use of the shoreline.
