The elite cyclist from Cala d'Or-Ferrobikers claimed the overall victory in the first category race held this Sunday in the urban circuit of Algaida.
Cyclist Jorge Rey, from Cala d’Or-Ferrobikers, was declared the overall winner of the Memorial Guillem Ramis, a first category event that took place this Sunday afternoon in Algaida. The organisation was managed by CC Rodadors, who repeated the same urban circuit of three kilometres per lap used last year.
The race featured 31 participants and was completed without any withdrawals. During the seventh of the fourteen laps, a breakaway of six riders formed that seemed definitive, but they were caught with one lap to go. Thus, everything was decided in a mass sprint, where Jorge Rey demonstrated his power to prevail over Joan Gamundí, Lluís Borràs, Miquel Riera, and Joan Morlà.
Joan Morlà was also the winner in the junior category, followed by Joan Riutort and Nico Ros. The Memorial Guillem Ramis also included events in other categories, with notable victories from local cyclists.
In the second-level race, local Miquel Àngel Gelabert from CC Mancor de la Vall achieved victory against his fellow townsmen after a tight sprint. He surpassed junior Llorenç Roig and David Mayol. The podium for the third category event was dominated by the master 50s, with Pedro Mas winning over Joan Xavier Amer, who returns to cycling after nearly twenty years. Local Tomeu Ballester completed the honour roll.
The day also left a great taste for the under-23 Maria Magdalena Deyà from Cantabria Deporte, who repeated her victory in Algaida just a day after winning the Ciutat d’Inca. Deyà won solo, followed by junior Carla Pérez, master 40 Susana Sevillano, and elite Francesca Marcús. The return of junior Nuria Jerónimo was also noteworthy, as she came back to the road after a serious accident months ago.
In the cadet category, the finish was so close that a photo review was required to determine the winner: Miquel Àngel Vicens edged out Francisco Lozano, Miquel Morlà, and Martí Torrens. In the infants, Lucas Porchl won the sprint against Martí Sales and Oliver Stewart. In the alevines, Jaume Salmerón continues to dominate the category with a new victory, finishing more than two minutes ahead of Tomeu Verger and Adrián Tolosa; Clara Nadal was the first girl. Beginners also competed, with Nuria Gil winning ahead of Pau Xampeny and Miquel Bibiloni.
The Memorial Guillem Ramis is establishing itself as a key event in the island's cycling calendar, bringing together riders from all categories in a highly competitive atmosphere. The next edition is already eagerly anticipated, following the successful participation and excitement of this day.
