The Local Police in Palma have arrested a 59-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of a threat offence. The individual, who insulted and brandished a knife against residents walking their dogs, was detained after hiding the knife in Kristian Krekovic park.
Officers from the Local Police in Palma arrested a 59-year-old man on July 22, accused of threatening several residents with a knife while they were walking their dogs in Kristian Krekovic park. The events occurred around 8:00 PM, when the 092 emergency line received an urgent call and dispatched a patrol from the Integral Security Unit (USEI).
Upon arrival, three citizens walking their pets identified the aggressor, who was sitting on a nearby bench. According to the witnesses, the individual began to hurl insults and derogatory remarks at them due to the presence of the animals. When one of the walkers asked for respect, the man reacted violently: he pulled a knife from his pocket, unfolded the nine-centimetre blade, and advanced towards the victim, claiming he would not hesitate to use it.
The affected individual had to step back several paces to avoid being stabbed. However, the attacker did not stop: minutes later, he brandished the weapon again to threaten those present, stating that "he had remembered their faces."
The officers proceeded to immediately arrest the suspect. During the operation, several park users located a knife with a wooden handle and a nine-centimetre blade, hidden just a few metres away, which was positively identified by the witnesses.
After processing the case in the Incident Room, the Local Police handed the detainee over to the National Police for judicial proceedings. The arrested man, of Spanish nationality, faces an alleged offence of threats.
Kristian Krekovic park, located in the Palma neighbourhood of Son Armadams, is a popular area for families and dog walkers. The incident has caused alarm among residents, who are calling for a greater police presence in the area. The Palma City Council reminds that the Local Police maintains regular patrols in parks and public spaces to ensure citizen safety.
Such incidents are not common in the area, although police sources indicate that surveillance has increased in recent months. Affected residents have expressed their satisfaction with the swift action of the officers and trust that the detainee will be brought before the courts in the coming hours.
