The Government has designated nine official areas in Mallorca for the total solar eclipse on August 12. Son Matamoros, in Felanitx, will be the point with the largest capacity, with 70,453 places.
The roar of the motorcycles will give way to cosmic silence. The Son Matamoros Motocross Circuit, in Felanitx, will become on August 12 the main observation point for the total solar eclipse in Mallorca, with a capacity of 70,453 people, as announced this Thursday by the Director General of Emergencies and Interior, Pablo Gárriz.
Located next to the Vilafranca road (PM-511) and managed by the Moto Club Felanitx, the circuit will leave its permanent 1,300-meter dirt track for one day to host astronomy enthusiasts. The Government chose this facility for its accessibility, capacity, and safety, as Gárriz explained during the presentation of the plan.
Mallorca adds nearly 158,000 official places
Across the island, the Government has designated nine Official Observation Zones (ZOO) that total 157,682 places. Throughout the Balearics, there will be 26 points distributed across 15 municipalities, with a total capacity of 310,594 people.
Gárriz noted that these figures may still undergo slight adjustments, although the aim of the plan is to distribute observers across the territory to reduce pressure on the most sensitive natural areas. They were not only looking for the places with the best visibility but also those that met all the conditions for citizens to observe it safely.
Platja de Palma and Porreres, the next highest capacities
After Son Matamoros, the second space with the largest capacity will be Platja de Palma, with a capacity for 47,818 people. Following that is the Porreres roundabout, with 10,781 places. The remaining official areas in Mallorca are Santa Ponça beach (8,477), Algaida football field (6,231), Pina football field (5,731), the stretch between Maioris and Tolleric (4,749), the parking lot of MA-3220 in Petra (2,775), and Maioris (667).
For the residents of Felanitx and the Llevant region, Son Matamoros stands out as the closest and most massive option to not miss the phenomenon. The Government recommends arriving early and checking the traffic restrictions that will be announced soon.
The total solar eclipse on August 12 will be fully visible from Mallorca, and the authorities have implemented a special plan to ensure the safety of attendees. A large turnout is expected, so the Government emphasizes the importance of attending the designated areas and following the instructions of emergency teams.
