86 migrants of sub-Saharan origin arrived in the Balearics on Saturday in three boats, according to the Government Delegation. One of the vessels was located in Cala Pi, in Llucmajor.

The Government Delegation in the Balearics has confirmed the arrival of 86 migrants of sub-Saharan origin to the islands during Saturday, distributed across three boats located in Formentera, Cabrera and Llucmajor. The first intervention took place past midnight, at 00:05 hours, when 27 people were intercepted on the coastline of Cala Saona, in Formentera. The operation involved agents from the Guardia Civil from the island's post, the Citizen Security Unit of the Command (USECIC), the Firefighters of Formentera, and the Red Cross.

Rescue south of Cabrera

At 9:20 hours, the Provincial Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil and Maritime Rescue rescued another 32 sub-Saharan migrants who were sailing in a small boat south of the island of Cabrera. The migrants were transferred to dry land and made available to the reception services.

The third boat was located at 6:32 hours on the coast of Cala Pi, in the municipality of Llucmajor. There, the Guardia Civil intercepted 27 migrants who had managed to reach land. The security and emergency forces activated the usual protocol, which includes medical assistance and transfer to temporary reception centres.

Annual balance: 3,385 arrivals so far this year

According to the latest data from the Ministry of the Interior and the interventions reported by the Government Delegation in the Balearics, there have been 178 arrivals of boats with 3,385 irregular immigrants so far this year. These figures reflect the migratory pressure that the islands endure, especially during the good weather months.

During 2025, 7,321 people in 401 boats arrived in the Balearics from North Africa, representing a 24.5% increase in the number of migrants and nearly 15% in the number of boats compared to 2024. The Algerian route remains the most used, with departures from coasts near Oran and Algiers.

The simultaneous arrival of three vessels in less than 12 hours has once again put the rescue and reception devices of the islands on alert. In Llucmajor, residents of the Cala Pi area have expressed their concern about the frequency of these landings, although the Town Hall assures that protocols are being followed without incidents.

The migrants, all adults and in apparent good health, were attended to by Red Cross teams, who provided them with basic medical care, dry clothing, and food. They were subsequently transferred to centres set up for their identification and processing of international protection requests.
