The PSIB candidate for the presidency of the Govern, Rosario Sánchez, denounced this Friday in Palma that "after three years of the PP Govern we have housing more expensive than ever" and a "completely uncontrolled" tourism situation.
About 500 people gathered on Friday at the summer dinner of the Socialist Federation of Mallorca (FSM), held at the Jovent cooperative centre in Palma. The PSIB-PSOE candidate for the presidency of the Govern, Rosario Sánchez, took the opportunity to criticise Marga Prohens' management.
Housing, tourism, and territory, the focus of criticism
During her speech, Sánchez stated that the Balearic Islands are experiencing a "worrying situation" in public services such as healthcare, education, and dependency. "After three years of the PP Govern we have housing more expensive than ever; a tourism situation that is absolutely uncontrolled," affirmed the also Secretary of State for Tourism.
The socialist candidate denounced that the actions of Prohens' government cause "the lack of territorial protection". Sánchez appealed to the "hope for change" and defended a political project based on work, hope, and the possibility of achieving a change of government in the 2027 elections.
Local candidates set their priorities
At the dinner, Amanda Fernández, candidate for the Mallorca Council, and Iago Negueruela, candidate for the mayoralty of Palma, also spoke. Fernández highlighted the role of socialism as a force committed to social justice and equality, and defended an island model that facilitates young people's access to a life project.
For his part, Negueruela stated that Palma needs "an immediate socialist government" and placed among his priorities access to affordable housing and improving urban mobility through strengthening public transport and the bike lane network. He criticised the current municipal policy in both areas.
The dinner was attended by the General Secretary of PSIB-PSOE, Francina Armengol, and other socialist candidates for the 2027 regional and municipal elections. The recently deceased General Secretary of the Socialist Group of Alcúdia, Joan Gaspar Vallori, was also remembered.
The Council candidate, Amanda Fernández, praised the extraordinary regularisation process promoted by the central government and acknowledged the work of socialist volunteers who have helped facilitate procedures for those affected. The Mallorca socialists are optimistic about the upcoming elections, although there is still a year to go until the polls.
