The Town Hall of Manacor will freely cede a plot of almost 2,900 square metres to Proyecto Hombre Baleares to build a new headquarters for comprehensive addiction treatment, which will serve the entire Llevant region.
The Town Hall of Manacor announced this Wednesday the free cession of a municipal plot to Proyecto Hombre Baleares for the construction of a new headquarters dedicated to comprehensive addiction treatment. The plot, of almost 2,900 square metres, will allow for the expansion and consolidation of a service that currently supports 138 active individuals in the municipality.
The proposal will be put to a vote at the extraordinary Plenary session on Wednesday, July 29, and is based on the public interest and social benefit represented by the work of this non-profit entity. The new healthcare facility will replace the current installations, which have become insufficient due to the sustained growth in demand in recent years.
The Mayor of Manacor, Miquel Oliver, and the delegate for Urban Planning and Housing, Núria Hinojosa, participated in the presentation alongside the director of Proyecto Hombre Baleares, Jesús Mullor; the economic and financial director, David Martínez, and the deputy director of the Comprehensive Treatment Centre (CTI) of Manacor, Magdalena Girart.
The director of the entity, Jesús Mullor, highlighted that "we were serving people from Manacor and families who had to make a whole journey from here to Palma," and he valued that the new centre will bring services closer to the Llevant region. For her part, Magdalena Girart specified that "we are currently actively supporting 138 individuals in Manacor, with treatments tailored to each user's needs."
The data from the file reflects the need for the service. Between 2022 and May 31, 2026, Proyecto Hombre Baleares has assisted 775 residents of Manacor: 513 adults in therapeutic programmes, 28 young people, 131 individuals through services aimed at the general population, and 103 individuals in specialised residential resources.
The work of the entity also extends to the family environment. During that same period, 3,171 support actions for families have been carried out, including follow-up meetings, therapeutic groups, individual emotional support sessions, informational meetings, and activities from the Family School.
In addition to treatment, Proyecto Hombre Baleares promotes an intense preventive and community activity, with workshops in educational centres in Manacor and Porto Cristo, activities aimed at families, training actions for professionals, and a job orientation service that contributes to the prevention of addictions and social inclusion.
The cession of the plot includes guarantees to ensure its public interest purpose. The new building must be constructed within a maximum period of five years from the formalisation of the cession and maintain its healthcare use for at least thirty years, ensuring care for the citizens of Manacor. In case of non-compliance, the plot will revert to municipal ownership.
The agreement initially approved by the Plenary will be subject to public information for twenty working days before its final approval. With this initiative, the Town Hall of Manacor strengthens collaboration with a reference entity in addiction treatment and puts municipal assets at the service of a growing social need, consolidating Manacor as a healthcare hub in Mallorca.
For the residents of Manacor and the region, the new headquarters will mean closer and quicker access to therapeutic resources, avoiding trips to Palma and improving comprehensive care for individuals with addictions and their families.
