157 children and young people from Calvià participated this July in the camps at the public estate of Galatzó, nearing full occupancy. The Town Hall confirms that the project, which combines nature and digital silence, will continue.
The Youth Department of the Town Hall of Calvià has announced that the summer camps organised at the public estate of Galatzó will continue in future editions, after this year's participation was nearly full. A total of 157 children and young people aged between 9 and 16 enjoyed the stays during the month of July, most of whom are residents of the municipality.
The camps were held in four shifts of six days each, three of which were aimed at children aged 9 to 13, under the name 'Camps Es Galatzó', and a fourth shift for teenagers aged 13 to 16, called 'Comte Mal Es Galatzó'. Families from Calvià were able to access subsidised prices thanks to the Town Hall's support, which facilitated work-life balance.
One of the most notable aspects of the programme is the digital disconnection: during the six days, participants do not use mobile phones, tablets, or any other electronic devices. The initiative aims to promote contact with nature, coexistence, and values such as personal autonomy, teamwork, and respect for the environment.
The public estate of Galatzó, owned by the Town Hall of Calvià, is located in the Serra de Tramuntana and covers 1,400 hectares, approximately 10% of the municipality's area. The space is known for its conservation work, the reintroduction of threatened species, and traditional agricultural activity. It features a refuge, the Casas de Galatzó which are undergoing rehabilitation, and a network of marked trails.
The high demand recorded this summer, nearing full capacity, has been the determining factor for the Town Hall to commit to the continuity of the project, which was launched this legislative term. The Youth Department positively assesses the reception and plans to repeat the experience next year.
For families in Calvià, these camps represent an educational leisure alternative for their children during school holidays, while also contributing to work-life balance. Registrations for the next edition will be announced in advance through the Town Hall's official channels.
