The cultural manager Marta Ferré Freitas-Morna has been appointed as the new director-manager of the Teatre i Auditori Municipals de Manacor, as approved by the Manacor City Council's Governing Board this Monday. Ferré, who will take office in the coming weeks, replaces the previous head and arrives with the task of promoting the performing arts and strengthening ties with the creators of the municipality.
A solid career in the cultural institutions of the Balearics
Ferré, born in Lisbon in 1978, has over twenty years of experience in the cultural sector of the archipelago. She holds a degree in Hispanic Philology and Theory of Literature from the Universitat de Barcelona and was the deputy director of the Teatre Principal de Palma from 2019 to 2023, the main performance space in the Balearic capital. Previously, she directed the Culture Area of the Ajuntament de Palma (2017-2019) and has coordinated projects at the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics, the Institut Ramon Llull, and the Ajuntament d’Inca.
Her profile combines a solid academic background with practical management in public institutions, positioning her as a professional capable of facing the challenges of the Manacor theatre. According to municipal sources, her selection responds to the need for a technical figure to ensure continuity in the renewal initiated with the new statutes of the autonomous body.
An integrated model for all performing disciplines
Ferré's project for the Teatre i Auditori Municipals encompasses theatre, music, dance, circus, visual arts, and street arts. The new director aims to transform these spaces into residency and support points for local playwrights and companies, with special attention to school theatre in the region. The goal is for local creators to find in Manacor a stable place to develop their projects, rehearse, and premiere.
The mayor of Manacor, Miquel Oliver, and the councillor for Culture, Ferran Montero, have argued that this appointment guarantees rigorous technical management. In statements reported by the council, Montero noted that the new direction will allow "to put the facilities at the service of popular talent" and ensure a plural and quality programme.
The Programming Board, key in the new stage
The management of the theatre will be governed by the new statutes approved by the City Council, which include the creation of a Programming Board. This advisory body will consist of representatives from theatre, music, dance, the audiovisual sector, and education, in order to ensure an open dialogue with the artistic community. The intention is for the programming to reflect the real concerns of the creators and the audience in the Llevant region.
Ferré will officially take office in the coming weeks, following administrative procedures. The residents of Manacor and nearby municipalities can expect a more accessible and participatory programme, with spaces for emerging talent and for established companies from the Balearic Islands.
