From July 28 to August 20, sa Pobla will become the epicentre of Balearic jazz with the thirty-second edition of the Mallorca Jazz Festival, which pays tribute to the centenary of Miles Davis's birth.
The Mallorca Jazz Festival sa Pobla unveiled its programme for the thirty-second edition this Tuesday, which will take place from July 28 to August 20. This event, which has become a summer classic on the island, will commemorate the centenary of Miles Davis's birth, one of the most influential figures in the history of jazz.
The Councillor for Culture of the sa Pobla Town Hall, Biel Payeras, and the programmer Pep Crespí presented the poster at a press conference, highlighting the festival's consolidation as an undisputed reference in the Balearic jazz scene after more than three decades of history.
Free Opening Concert and Major International Figures
The festival will kick off on July 28 with a free concert in the Plaza Mayor titled New Sketches of Spain, a project led by French trumpeter Erik Truffaz and saxophonist Antonio Lizana. The proposal revisits one of the most emblematic works of Miles Davis and Gil Evans, in a direct tribute to the jazz genius.
The Can Cirera Prim park will once again be the main stage of the event. There, singer China Moses, one of the great voices of contemporary jazz; Mallorcan vibraphonist Joan Pérez-Villegas with his project Blau Salvatge; and the Lucía Rey Quartet will bring the festival to a close on August 20 with their work Nómadas, one of the most acclaimed proposals in the new state jazz scene.
The festival continues to support new talents through the JAZZDARA cycle, which will take place in the Can Verdal courtyard. It will feature the Fran Ramos Quartet, Goran Levi Quartet, and Tomeu & Joan Garcias Quartet, providing a platform for emerging creators from the local scene.
More than Concerts: Activities for All Audiences
The Mallorca Jazz Festival sa Pobla is not limited to concerts. The programme includes parallel activities that will fill various spaces in the municipality. Highlights include the GLOJAZZADA, which will merge jazz and improvised glosa in Crestatx; the SA POBLA LINDY JAZZ CONNEXIÓ, which will turn the plaza del Metge Duet into an open swing dance floor for everyone; and the JAZZET, a family day with workshops for the little ones to get introduced to jazz.
Additionally, the book Sketches of Catalonia by Pere Pons will be presented, and there will be a conference dedicated to the centenary of Miles Davis. Cinema will also have its space with the screening of Köln 75, a film inspired by the legendary concert of Keith Jarrett.
Tribute to Ferran Pereyra and Social Commitment
The Mallorca Jazz Festival sa Pobla 2026 Award will be awarded to journalist and music critic Ferran Pereyra, in recognition of his career in promoting jazz and his close ties to the festival. Coinciding with this tribute, the photographic exhibition Stolen Moments will be on display in the Can Cirera Prim park, featuring images captured by Pereyra at festivals around the world.
This year, the festival strengthens its solidarity aspect. Part of the proceeds will go to the “Som n’Oriol” campaign for research into FOXG1 syndrome, a rare neurological disease. The initiative aims to support research and affected families, adding value to the musical event.
The official image of the festival is created by Mallorcan artist Albert Pinya, whose visual language connects with the values of creativity, innovation, and freedom that define the event.
