Més per Mallorca has announced that it will request the urgent appearance of the Health Minister in the Balearic Parliament. The reason is the repeated failures in the air conditioning systems of several healthcare centres in the Balearics, particularly affecting the Manacor and Son Llàtzer hospitals this week.
The party will register the request next Monday. In addition, it will present a series of parliamentary questions to understand the real extent of the incidents, the causes of the failures, and the measures planned by the Government to prevent them from recurring.
According to Més, the situation has reached the point where the use of personal fans has been authorised in the Manacor and Son Llàtzer hospitals. This exceptional measure, in the party's view, highlights the seriousness of the problem and raises concerns about environmental control and patient safety.
The party reminds that the incidents have not been limited to those centres. They have also affected emergency services and hospital wards. Furthermore, it points out that temperatures above the recommended levels have been recorded in Son Espases due to the poor functioning of the air conditioning system.
MP Marta Carrió has described the situation as "absolutely unacceptable." In statements reported by Més, Carrió stated: "It is absolutely unacceptable that, in the midst of a heatwave, hospitals have to operate with insufficient or broken air conditioning systems. We are talking about spaces where there are particularly vulnerable people, professionals working under very demanding conditions, and equipment that must ensure adequate environmental conditions at all times."
Carrió has also called for accountability from the regional government. "The Ministry cannot normalise this situation or limit itself to acting when the problem is already unsustainable. We need to know what has failed, what responsibilities exist, and, above all, what plan the Government has to ensure this situation does not happen again," she added.
For Més, ensuring adequate environmental conditions in hospitals goes far beyond comfort. The party argues that having proper air conditioning is an essential requirement for providing quality healthcare, protecting patients' health, and ensuring decent working conditions for healthcare professionals.
Air conditioning problems in public hospitals in the Balearics are not new. This summer, high temperatures have exacerbated deficiencies in several centres, generating complaints from patients and unions. Més hopes that the appearance of the Minister will help clarify responsibilities and advance solutions.
The party has announced that it will closely monitor the evolution of this issue and does not rule out new parliamentary initiatives if the Government does not provide concrete answers. Meanwhile, patients and professionals in the affected hospitals continue to suffer the consequences of air conditioning systems that are not functioning properly.
