Four people have been injured, two of them by firearm, in a clan fight in the Sant Roc neighbourhood of Badalona. The events occurred this Saturday on Jumilla Street and the Mossos are investigating a possible settling of scores.

A new dispute between clans has once again stained the streets of the metropolitan area of Barcelona with violence. This Saturday, a fight in the Sant Roc neighbourhood of Badalona resulted in four injuries, two of them by firearm, another by knife, and a fourth from a blow to the head. According to police sources, none of the affected individuals are in life-threatening condition.

A settling of scores between Roma clans

Initial investigations suggest that the incident, which occurred on Jumilla Street, is related to a settling of scores between Roma clans over a family dispute. The Mossos d'Esquadra have opened an investigation to clarify the events, and so far, there have been no arrests. The police have been deployed in the area to prevent further altercations and have even monitored the outside of the hospital where the injured were taken to prevent confrontations.

This incident adds to a worrying trend in Catalonia. In the first half of the year, the community has recorded six deaths by firearm and 27 injuries, according to data from the Generalitat. In the whole of last year, the figures were eight dead and 28 injured, highlighting an increase in armed violence in the region.

Alarm over shootings grows in the metropolitan area

The Mossos d'Esquadra have expressed their concern over the sustained increase in shootings, especially in Barcelona and its surrounding areas. In addition to the data from the first half of the year, there was the murder of a minor on the night of July 2 to 3 in the Pegaso park in Barcelona, which already has one arrest. Now, the two injured this Saturday in Sant Roc add to a list that continues to grow.

Violence between clans is not new in Badalona, a municipality that has experienced similar episodes in the past. The Sant Roc neighbourhood, in particular, has been the scene of several violent disputes in recent years. Local authorities have requested more police resources to address this issue, which directly affects the safety of residents.

What does this mean for the residents of Sant Roc?

For residents of Jumilla Street and its surroundings, this new incident generates uncertainty and fear. Many claim that police presence intensifies after such events, but that the tension remains latent. The fight this Saturday has once again highlighted the need for preventive measures and social mediation to prevent family disputes from ending in bloodshed.

The Mossos have called for citizen collaboration to clarify what happened. Any information could be key to identifying those responsible and preventing the violence from recurring. Meanwhile, the investigation remains open, and updates on the condition of the injured and possible arrests are expected in the coming days.
