The leader of the PP in the Barcelona City Council, Daniel Sirera, has announced his candidacy for mayor in the upcoming municipal elections with the aim of 'lifting Barcelona out of degradation and decay'.

The leader of the PP in the Barcelona City Council, Daniel Sirera, defended his candidacy for mayor for the 2027 municipal elections this Saturday. At an event in Santiago de Compostela, Sirera stated that his goal is to 'lift Barcelona out of the degradation and decay' that, according to him, has been imposed by left-wing governments.

Sirera presented his government programme focused on four pillars: security, combating illegal occupation, reducing incivility, and easing tax pressure. 'I will reverse this reality if I am mayor,' he asserted, according to a statement from the PP.

A plan for Barcelona from the PP

The popular candidate detailed that his project aims to transform Barcelona into a 'much better' city through policies that promote public safety and combat illegal occupation, a problem that, according to party data, affects thousands of homes in the Catalan capital.

Additionally, Sirera expressed his confidence that the PP can achieve change at both the municipal and national levels with Alberto Núñez Feijóo leading the Government. 'The PP is in a position to lead a real alternative for Barcelonians,' he emphasised.

The PP candidates in Catalan capitals

The PP has also confirmed its candidates in other Catalan provincial capitals. In Lleida, Xavier Palau has been officially proclaimed, advocating 'a new era with a government that puts Lleida above party interests'. In Girona, the candidate will be Daniel Ruiz, and in Tarragona, Maria Mercè Martorell.

Palau highlighted that his goal is to 'make Lleida a safe, prosperous city, proud of its identity and with opportunities'. The PP presented its 54 candidates in the provincial capitals at an event in Santiago de Compostela.

For the residents of Barcelona, the 2027 municipal elections will represent an opportunity to decide the city's direction. Sirera insisted that his candidacy offers an alternative 'against insecurity, high housing prices, and tax pressure' that, according to him, characterise the current management.

The candidate presentation event served for the PP to showcase its commitment to cities, with a message of change that they hope will resonate with voters. The municipal elections will be held in May 2027, and the parties are already gearing up.
