The Royal Palace of Almudaina in Palma will reopen to the public on July 29 after a comprehensive renovation costing €2.5 million. Entry will be free on July 29, 30, and 31.

The Royal Palace of Almudaina, the official residence of the kings of Spain during their stays in Mallorca, is reopening its doors following an ambitious transformation project. National Heritage has announced that the reopening will take place on July 29, just in time for the arrival of the Royal Family on the island.

The renovation, which had a budget of €2.5 million, has completely renewed the museum route of the palace. Visitors will now be able to enjoy areas that have previously been closed to the public, such as the Queen's Palace on the upper floor.

A Chronological Journey Through the History of Almudaina

The new itinerary follows a chronological order that allows visitors to explore the history of the palace from its Roman origins and the Muslim period to the Kingdom of Mallorca, its incorporation into the Crown of Aragon, and the subsequent Bourbon period. The Throne Room, set in the time of Alfonso XIII, is now the highlight of the tour.

Unique pieces from the National Heritage collections have been incorporated, such as a 10th-century white marble lion, a 12th-century bronze griffin, and the tympanum of the Coronation of the Virgin from the 13th century. Roman ceramics and amphorae loaned by the Museum of Mallorca have also been added.

The museography has been designed to be light and respectful of the palace's architecture. Works without historical ties to the Royal Site have been removed, and the monumental lighting has been upgraded for energy efficiency. Additionally, a new, larger, and more organized visitor reception centre has been created.

Free Entry and Royal Agenda in Mallorca

On the occasion of the reopening, entry to the palace will be free on July 29, 30, and 31. This is a unique opportunity for locals and tourists to discover the monument's new features before the Royal Family begins their official agenda.

The Kings and their daughters, Leonor and Sofía, will spend part of their summer holidays in Mallorca, as they do every year. Institutional activities will begin on July 24 with an audience with Felipe VI. On the 30th, the king will receive Pedro Sánchez at the Marivent Palace for the usual summer meeting.

Queen Letizia is scheduled to attend the closing of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest on August 2. Two days later, on August 4, the traditional reception for Balearic civil society will be held at Almudaina, a key event in the royal agenda. The final highlight will be the King's Cup of Sailing, with the trophy presentation taking place on August 8.

For the residents of Palma and the entire island, the reopening of Almudaina means the return of one of the most significant heritage sites in the Balearics, which receives around 250,000 people each year. The renovation not only enhances the visitor experience but also highlights the history of Mallorca and its connection to the Crown.

Those interested in visiting the palace can check the hours and reserve tickets through the National Heritage website. The free visits during the first days will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached.
