Erik Truffaz, Antonio Lizana and China Moses lead the 32nd edition of the Mallorca Jazz sa Pobla Festival, from July 28 to August 20, dedicated to the centenary of Miles Davis. Concerts, family activities, and an award for Ferran Pereyra complete the programme.
The Swiss trumpeter Erik Truffaz and the flamenco saxophonist Antonio Lizana will open the festival on July 28 at the Plaça Major de sa Pobla with free entry. They will present New Sketches of Spain, a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic by Miles Davis and Gil Evans, in an octet that fuses jazz, flamenco, and roots music. The inaugural concert is the highlight of a programme that brings together 12 ensembles and over 50 musicians.
China Moses and International Jazz at Parc de Can Cirera Prim
The American singer China Moses will perform on August 4 at the Parc de Can Cirera Prim. With a career spanning jazz, soul, and rhythm & blues, Moses is one of the most recognisable voices in the current scene. Her paid concert promises an intense night with her usual band. Tickets are already on sale on the festival's website.
The festival also supports local talent with the Mallorcan vibraphonist Joan Pérez-Villegas, who will present Blau Salvatge, a project that combines chamber writing and improvisation with traditional influences. He will be joined by the Lucía Rey Cuarteto, whose work Nómadas was recognised by the Plataforma Jazz España. Both concerts will take place at the Parc de Can Cirera Prim on August 11 and 12.
JAZZDARA, Improvised Gloss and Lindy Hop for All Audiences
The JAZZDARA cycle, already established as a breeding ground for young talent, returns to the courtyard of Can Verdal with performances by Fran Ramos Quartet, Goran Levi Quartet, and Tomeu & Joan Garcias Quartet. There will be three evenings of emerging jazz with original compositions, from August 15 to 17. Entry is free until capacity is reached.
The programme includes new features such as GLOJAZZADA, which fuses jazz with the Mallorcan improvised gloss; JAZZET, a day of workshops and concerts for families with young children; and SA POBLA LINDY JAZZ CONNEXIÓ, which brings swing and Lindy Hop closer with open classes and social dancing. All activities are free and take place in different spaces throughout the municipality.
The festival maintains its social commitment: part of the ticket sales will be allocated to research on FOXG1 syndrome, a rare neurological disease. Additionally, the Festival Mallorca Jazz sa Pobla 2026 Award will be presented to journalist and music critic Ferran Pereyra for his contribution to the promotion of jazz. Coinciding with the award, the photographic exhibition Stolen Moments, featuring images taken by Pereyra at international festivals, will be on display.
The programme is completed with the presentation of the book Sketches of Catalonia by Pere Pons, a conference on Miles Davis, and the screening of Köln 75, a film about the recording of the legendary Keith Jarrett concert. All parallel activities are free to access.
The festival kicks off on July 28 and runs until August 20. Paid concerts range from 15 to 25 euros, and tickets can be purchased on the official website. For residents of sa Pobla, the festival offers special discounts at the box office. Last year, the edition attracted over 4,000 attendees, and this year's forecasts aim to surpass that figure thanks to the draw of Miles Davis's centenary.
