The 7/12 establishment, inspired by 7-Eleven but with its own kitchen, will open in Plaza Mayor, Palma in mid-August. It will offer sushi, bentos, and viral snacks made daily.
In mid-August, Plaza Mayor in Palma will welcome a new supermarket concept that combines the sale of Asian products with freshly prepared food to consume on-site. This is 7/12, an establishment that aims to bring the philosophy of the popular 7-Eleven stores from Japan and the United States, but with a key difference: all food is prepared daily in the store.
The owner, Wenji Peng, explains that Mallorca lacked a supermarket offering Asian products that are hard to find on the island, along with freshly prepared dishes. “The island needed a supermarket that combined the sale of Asian products with freshly prepared food to consume right here,” he states.
The name 7/12 has its own explanation: the store will open seven days a week for twelve hours. Peng clarifies that the inspiration from 7-Eleven is only conceptual, but the identity is unique. “I wanted to create something similar focused on food and because I wanted to open seven days a week for twelve hours,” he details.
The opening is scheduled for mid-August, although a specific date has not yet been set. Peng jokes that “the day of the eclipse could be a good option.” Beyond the anecdote, the goal is to provide a space for those looking for fast, affordable, and quality food without the waits of a restaurant.
Among the products already defined are freshly made sushi, Japanese bentos, onigiris, pokes, dim sums, gyozas, Japanese egg sandwiches, hot food, desserts, Asian soft drinks, viral snacks, and the popular Shin Chan cookies. They will also incorporate Western offerings such as hamburgers, hot dogs, and nuggets. “We are not only focused on Asian cuisine but on all the interesting things in the world,” explains Peng.
The store, located at a corner of Plaza Mayor, is finalising preparations. Peng emphasises that the food does not come from factories: “Everything is prepared here, on the spot and every day. We want those who come to take away a good freshly made product.”
For the inauguration, the marketing team is preparing eye-catching promotional actions. The most talked-about is offering a lifetime discount to those who decide to tattoo the 7/12 logo. “It’s a bit of a crazy idea that we are working on with the marketing team. We want to have fun and do something different,” Peng hints.
The 7/12 supermarket adds to the commercial offerings in the centre of Palma, where in recent months, establishments specialising in international products have proliferated. Peng’s proposal focuses on quality and immediacy, with extended hours allowing customers to buy and eat on the spot without the need for planning.
Residents of Palma and visitors will find this new format in the heart of the city, in a very busy area. The exact opening date will be communicated soon, although all signs point to it being in the second half of August. In the meantime, the store continues preparations to offer a different shopping and dining experience.
