Algerian man arrested with four high-end phones stolen from tourists in Palma

The National Police have arrested an Algerian man as the alleged perpetrator of multiple thefts from German tourists in Palma. Four high-end phones, wallets, sunglasses, and cash were seized from him.

National Police agents in Palma have detained an Algerian citizen as the alleged responsible for a theft offence. The events occurred during the early hours, when a patrol from the Operational Response Group (GOR) observed an individual approaching several tourists in the street.

Upon stopping him and conducting a preventive search, the agents discovered that the man was hiding several wallets containing documentation from German citizens, sunglasses, cash, and wireless headphones. In a bum bag, he also stored four high-end mobile phones, all of them premium models.

All the seized items and identifications belonged to foreign visitors who were on holiday on the island. The swift intervention of the night patrols allowed for the recovery of the stolen material before it could be introduced into the black market.

The agents located the victims to return their belongings before they left the island. The detainee was placed at the disposal of the judiciary as the alleged author of a theft offence.

This arrest is part of the special operation deployed by the National Police to enhance security in Playa de Palma during the summer months. So far this campaign, the group dedicated to preventing thefts has arrested nearly 120 people in the act.

To combat crime in the areas with the highest tourist influx, the Chief Directorate has increased the presence of plainclothes patrols and marked vehicles. Additionally, the operation includes the collaboration of police from Germany, the Netherlands, and Romania, who are patrolling together to better assist international victims.

The arrest of this alleged thief represents another blow to the crime operating in the tourist areas of the Balearic capital. The National Police advises tourists to be extra cautious with their belongings, especially in crowded places and at night.
