The Department of Education and Universities has received works at IES Llucmajor, IES Antoni Maura in Palma, and CEIP Can Pastilla. The actions include structural renovations and facility improvements with an investment exceeding 690,000 euros.
The Department of Education and Universities has given the green light this week to improvement works at three educational centres in Mallorca, with a total investment exceeding 690,000 euros. The actions, carried out at IES Llucmajor, IES Antoni Maura in Palma, and CEIP Can Pastilla, are part of the ambitious regional Educational Infrastructure Plan, which anticipates nearly 300 interventions over the next decade.
Renovation of the sports roof at IES Llucmajor
At IES Llucmajor, the work has focused on rehabilitating the roof of the sports court, with a budget of 153,282.41 euros. The main concern was safety: water leaks had affected the concrete pillars, so they have been treated and reinforced with carbon fibre sheets.
Additionally, the anti-corrosive protection of the metal structure has been restored, and the gutters and downpipes have been repaired to prevent future leaks. Students can now enjoy safer facilities, just in time for the new school year.
New and accessible toilets at IES Antoni Maura
At IES Antoni Maura, in the heart of Palma, the investment has been the largest: 292,761.81 euros for the comprehensive renovation of the five toilet blocks in the institute. A total of 33 new toilets and 22 new sinks have been installed, and an accessible bathroom adapted for people with reduced mobility has been built.
The educational community had been requesting a modernisation of these spaces for years, which now look functional, hygienic, and accessible to all.
"It was an urgent need, the previous toilets were very deteriorated," sources from the centre comment.
Improvements at CEIP Can Pastilla
CEIP Can Pastilla has also undergone improvements, focused on repairing roofs and other construction issues. Although the Department has not detailed the exact amount of this intervention, it is part of the same package of works received this week.
With these actions, the Department of Education takes another step in its emergency plan to adapt educational centres in the Balearic Islands. In total, nearly 300 interventions are anticipated over the next decade, with a total investment exceeding 600 million euros. Residents of Llucmajor, Palma, and Can Pastilla can breathe easy: their children will study in safer and more modern facilities.
The works have already been completed, and the centres are ready for the start of the 2026-2027 school year. The Department reminds that these improvements add to others already executed on the island, and that the plan continues to address the needs of all centres.
