The fire, declared on Wednesday in Ciudad Real, has been controlled after more than 24 hours. The flames have scorched 800 hectares and residents are already working on the recovery of the area.

The forest fire that broke out last Wednesday in the municipalities of Hinojosas de Calatrava and Cabezarrubias del Puerto, in the province of Ciudad Real, has been declared extinguished at 21:20 on Thursday, according to the Forest Fire Prevention and Extinction Service of Castilla-La Mancha (Infocam).

The fire has devastated around 800 hectares, including privately owned plots. The affected owners spent Thursday closely monitoring the wind's evolution while processing what happened and beginning damage repair efforts, with help from neighbours, friends, and family.

Second Major Fire in Ten Days

This is the second large-scale fire recorded in the Alcudia Valley region in just ten days, raising significant concern among residents and local authorities. The recurrence of these incidents has tested the emergency services' response capacity.

The Cabezarrubias del Puerto Town Hall expressed gratitude in a statement for the work of the Security Forces, Infocam, Environmental Agents, Civil Protection, and the Health Service of Castilla-La Mancha (Sescam), as well as the collaboration of local residents. “It’s hard to process everything that has happened. It’s hard to process the hours lived. It’s hard to process that we have had to face this situation twice in just a few weeks. But if there’s one thing that’s easy, it’s to say thank you,” the statement reads.

Community Solidarity

The community's response has been exemplary. Numerous volunteers have brought water, fruit, and food to the emergency teams and shared every alert to ensure the information reached as many people as possible. The Town Hall has highlighted the importance of collective responsibility and unity to overcome difficult times.

The Town Hall also wanted to convey its support to the residents of Cabezarrubias del Puerto and Hinojosas de Calatrava who have suffered damage to their land, farms, and livestock. “We know that behind each affected plot lies much work, effort, and hope, and we share your concern,” the statement notes.

Recovery and Prevention

Now begins the recovery phase, during which the damage will be assessed and restoration efforts for the burned areas will commence. Local authorities have called for caution and adherence to emergency services' recommendations to prevent new incidents.

For the residents of Mallorca, this event serves as a reminder of the importance of wildfire prevention, especially during periods of drought and high temperatures. In the Balearic Islands, the risk of fires is a recurring issue, and the solidarity shown in Ciudad Real is an example of how the community can unite in the face of adversity.
