Local Police of Palma seizes 1,612 counterfeit items on Playa de Palma

The Local Police of Palma has intervened in over 1,600 counterfeit items across seven establishments on Playa de Palma, in an operation against the sale of fraudulent products. The owners of the shops have been investigated for an alleged crime against industrial property, according to municipal sources.

The operation took place between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM last Wednesday on Calle Cartago, one of the commercial hubs of the tourist area. A total of 21 officers, under the command of a sub-inspector and an officer, inspected the shops and confiscated 1,612 counterfeit items from top brands, including t-shirts, trousers, and sports kits.

This was not the first operation. On July 17, the Local Police had already conducted a similar inspection on the same street, where counterfeit items were also detected. Some of the establishments, however, had resumed displaying such products or had closed their shutters upon noticing the police presence, prompting the repeat operation.

Additionally, on Wednesday morning, another police unit acted on the road to s'Arenal, at number 44, against unauthorized street vending. In that intervention, 175 t-shirts and 80 pairs of sunglasses were seized from vendors lacking a license.

The investigations remain open and further actions in other parts of the city are not ruled out. The Local Police of Palma reminds that the sale of counterfeit products harms both consumers and original brands, and warns that controls in commercial and tourist areas will be intensified.

For residents and tourists of Playa de Palma, this operation represents a reinforcement of security and legality in local commerce. The sale of counterfeits not only infringes on intellectual property but can also create unfair competition with legal establishments in the area.

The owners of the investigated shops face possible prison sentences of six months to two years and fines, according to the Penal Code. The Local Police has informed the judicial authority of the facts.
