Mallorca's Restaurateurs CAEB warns of mass cancellations in the Playa de Palma area due to the total solar eclipse on August 12. Suppliers will only be able to deliver until 11:00 and access will close at 12:00.
The Mallorca Restaurateurs association CAEB has communicated to restaurateurs and suppliers in Playa de Palma the access and mobility restrictions planned for August 12, coinciding with the total solar eclipse. The measure, communicated after a meeting with the monitoring committee for the area, forces establishments to reorganise their activities in the face of an unprecedented security operation during the peak season.
According to the association, suppliers will only be able to access the area for deliveries until 11:00. From 12:00, access will be closed to the general public. Only residents, accredited workers, public transport, taxis, VTC, and tour operator buses will be allowed entry. This means that restaurant customers who do not reside in the area will have to use public transport to reach their destinations.
The association warns that these restrictions will harm establishments and their customers. In fact, some restaurants have already received cancellations from people who will not be able to arrive in their private vehicles, despite many venues having nearly full occupancy for that day. The sector fears that losses will be significant, given that some reservations were made over a year in advance.

Juan Miguel Ferrer, spokesperson for Mallorca Restaurateurs CAEB, noted that while they understand the authorities' desire to prevent congestion on Mallorca's three strategic arteries (airport, hospitals, and port), the situation creates great uncertainty. "Many reservations will be lost due to people's inability to reach their own destinations," he lamented.
Concerns also extend to the Serra de Tramuntana, where the action protocol is still being drafted. There, access points are even smaller and parking areas almost non-existent, which could exacerbate the problem. Restaurateurs in this area had invested in marketing and purchased special glasses for the event, and now their efforts are at risk.
To mitigate the impact, Mallorca Restaurateurs CAEB recommends that suppliers anticipate deliveries and that restaurateurs plan their supplies in advance, as well as inform customers with reservations about access conditions. The EMT will reinforce its operations to reach 400 trips, and taxi and VTC services will also be increased.
The association clarified that this information is based on the meeting with the Playa de Palma monitoring committee and that they are waiting for the final protocols to be published by the authorities. Once known, they will be able to analyse them and provide more precise information to their members.
