Affected citizens by the expansion of the ORA zone in Palma will be able to start the validation procedures from September 16. The new system will begin on January 1, 2027, and will impact around 170,000 residents and 40,000 vehicles.
The Palma City Council has announced that the procedures for validating the new ORA zone permits will begin on September 16. This was communicated on Tuesday by the Mobility Councillor, Toni Deudero, at a press conference where he detailed the timeline and requirements for residents affected by the expansion of regulated parking.
The new blue zone will come into operation on January 1, 2027, but from September 16, residents will be able to start the procedures to obtain the permit that will allow them to park at no additional cost in the new regulated areas. Deudero has stressed the importance of not leaving the management until the last moment and has recommended having all documentation prepared.
To carry out the validation, citizens must present their ID, NIE or passport, vehicle registration document, driving licence, proof of residence in the affected area, and a document proving they are up to date with municipal tax payments. Additionally, they will need to pay a fee of 24 euros, which can be paid by card or via payment letter, but not in cash.
Deudero explained that if all documentation is correct, the system will verify and validate the permit within minutes. To expedite the process, the SMAP (Municipal Parking Company of Palma) will increase its presence in the offices from September 16, although it will be necessary to request an appointment in advance.
The expansion of the ORA zone will affect the neighbourhoods of Foners, Pere Garau Este, Son Fortesa Sur, Els Hostalets, Son Oliva, Plaza de Toros, Camp Redó, and some streets in Bons Aires. However, not all streets in these neighbourhoods will be regulated, only those included in the regulation area, which totals 66,000 linear meters.

The councillor reminded that people who already have an ORA permit do not need to carry out any additional procedures, as the renewal will be done in the usual manner. He also pointed out that in this expansion, there will be no sticker or physical adhesive card, but the permit will be verified via a QR code.
From September 1, the new affected areas will begin to be painted blue, although the vending machines will not be operational until January. Deudero has called for patience and assured that the City Council has studied various participation scenarios, with a maximum forecast of 170,000 affected residents and 40,000 vehicles.
For residents of the included neighbourhoods, this expansion will mean a change in the way of parking. From January 2027, they will need to have a validated permit to park for free in the blue zones. The City Council recommends starting the procedure as soon as possible to avoid congestion in the offices during the final weeks.
The measure aims to regulate parking in a high traffic density area and improve vehicle turnover. Affected residents should keep an eye on the municipal website to know the status of their application and the validation deadlines.
