David Foenkinos, Juan Luis Arsuaga and Manuel Jabois lead the first confirmations for the Expanded Literature Festival of Magaluf (FLEM), which moves to the Innside Wave Calvià hotel from October 1 to 4.
The Expanded Literature Festival of Magaluf (FLEM) revealed the first names for its sixth edition this Friday, which will take place from October 1 to 4 in a new location: the Innside Wave Calvià hotel, right on the beachfront. The event, driven by the Rata Corner bookstore and the Innside by Meliá hotel, with the collaboration of the Ajuntament de Calvià, will bring together prominent voices from international, national and Balearic literature.
The international lineup is headed by the French author David Foenkinos, one of the most widely read authors in the world, who will present his latest novel Everyone Loves Clara. Also attending will be the German-American writer Aria Aber, nominated for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2025, who will make her only stop in Spain at FLEM to discuss her acclaimed work Good Girl.
On the national front, the festival will feature paleontologist Juan Luis Arsuaga, crime novelist Alicia Giménez Bartlett, journalist Manuel Jabois, and musician and writer Rayden. They will be joined by Ana Garriga and Carmen Urbita, creators of the well-known podcast The Daughters of Felipe.
FLEM continues to support local talent and new generations. Among the confirmed authors are Lana Corujo, author of the phenomenon They’ve Sung Bingo; the Mallorcan Laura Gost, who has just translated her new work into seven languages; and emerging voice Olivia Lund.
This sixth edition introduces a residency for writers and the FLEM Magaluf Novel Prize, an award worth 10,000 euros for authors under 35. The complete programme, which will include concerts and the popular Secret Rooms, will be revealed in the coming weeks. Registrations will open in September.
The change of venue, announced this week, places the festival in a hotel by the sea, a move aimed at consolidating FLEM as the major literary meeting point in the Balearics. The event will combine book presentations, music, talks, and recitals in a privileged setting.
For readers in Mallorca, FLEM represents a unique opportunity to access top-level authors without leaving the island. The presence of Mallorcan Laura Gost and the focus on local talent reinforce the festival's connection with the community. Additionally, the new novel prize could serve as a springboard for young writers from the Islands.
Organisers have highlighted that FLEM 2026 aims to surpass the success of previous editions, which attracted thousands of visitors to Magaluf. The musical programme and the Secret Rooms, surprise meeting spaces with authors, are shaping up to be the main attractions of this edition.
