The Spanish Volleyball Federation has drawn the groups for the Women's First Division for the 2026/27 season. CV Sant Cugat, representing Mallorca, will compete in Group B alongside eleven teams from Catalonia and the Canary Islands.
The women's volleyball of Mallorca now knows its roadmap for the upcoming season. CV Sant Cugat, the only team from the island in the Women's First Division, has been placed in Group B following the draw held by the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB). The competition will kick off on October 3, 2026, and will run until March 20, 2027, when the regular league concludes.
The team, which plays in the third tier of national volleyball, will face opponents mainly from the northeastern peninsula and the Canary Islands. Group B includes teams such as Voleibol Sant Just, CV Barça B, Handbol Bordils (Girona), MEDOL Tarragona SPSP, Heidelberg-Bellinni (Las Palmas), San Roque (Las Palmas), Club Natació Sabadell, L'Hospitalet, Premiá de Dalt Maresme, CV Vall D'Hebrón, and CV Torredembarra. All of them, except for the Canarians, are from Catalonia, which will reduce long-distance travel for CV Sant Cugat.
The competition system remains the same as in previous years. The two best-placed teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Final Phase, which will take place between April 16 and 18, 2027. There, the eight finalists will compete for four promotion spots to Superliga 2, the national second division. At the bottom, the two last-placed teams from each group will be relegated to the Second Division.
For CV Sant Cugat, the goal will be to improve on last season's performance and fight for one of the two spots available for the final phase. The team, which trains at its facilities in Sant Cugat del Vallès, has a young squad with experience in the category. Local fans will be able to follow their home matches at the municipal sports centre, where an animated atmosphere is expected for key games.
The complete calendar for Group B is already available on the RFEVB website. Matches will begin on the first weekend of October, with CV Sant Cugat visiting one of the Catalan rivals. The team will play 22 matches in the regular phase, in a home-and-away format. The Catalan derbies, especially against Voleibol Sant Just or CV Barça B, will be some of the most attractive clashes for Mallorca volleyball fans.
The Women's First Division is the precursor to elite volleyball in Spain. With 48 teams divided into four geographical groups, the competition aims to balance quality and travel costs. For CV Sant Cugat, being in Group B represents a manageable sporting and logistical challenge, with only two long trips to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The club is optimistic about the season ahead. Preparation will begin in August, with pre-season training and friendlies to fine-tune their game. The coaching staff, led by their coach, is confident that the squad can compete for the top positions in the table. The key will be to maintain consistency at home and accumulate points away.
