Two hours of intense searching. That is what the Civil Guard and Local Police needed to locate the body of the tourist who was hit this Sunday on a road in Capdepera. The body had been hidden in the dense vegetation of the area, according to this newspaper.

The incident occurred around seven in the morning on July 19, when the tourist, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was struck by a vehicle near a beach in the municipality. The driver, who fled the scene, was arrested hours later and tested positive for alcohol.
After the impact, the body was thrown and became buried among the garrigue and bushes, which greatly hindered its location. Emergency teams combed the area for more than two hours without success.
Finally, it was necessary to request the intervention of the firefighters, who arrived with chainsaws to clear the undergrowth and access the corpse. It was around ten in the morning when they managed to find the body.
Driver arrested and positive for alcohol
The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident was arrested hours after the event. According to sources from the investigation, the man tested positive in the breathalyser test conducted by the Civil Guard.
The authorities have opened an investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident and determine if the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He faces charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of the accident.
The deceased tourist was a visitor on holiday on the island. His body was transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Palma for an autopsy.

The mayor of Capdepera, Miquel Oliver, has expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and assured that the Town Hall will cooperate with the justice system in everything necessary. "This is a tragic event that shocks us all. We ask for responsibility behind the wheel," he stated.
The news has caused great shock in the municipality, especially among residents of the area where the accident occurred, a secondary road that is very busy during the tourist season. "It is a dangerous road, with poor visibility and a lot of vegetation," commented a resident.
