Around 200 people gathered this Wednesday in front of the Town Hall of Felanitx to denounce the police actions during the protest last Sunday. The demonstration, called by civic entities and the Bloc per Felanitx, included the reading of a manifesto and chants of La Balanguera.
The Mallorcan town of Felanitx was the scene this Wednesday of a new protest gathering against the police actions during the demonstration last Sunday. About 200 people congregated in front of the Ajuntament, called by various civic entities and the local party Bloc per Felanitx, to show their rejection of what they consider an excessive use of force.
Initially, the protesters positioned themselves in front of the Town Hall, but due to the influx of attendees, they moved to the space between the municipal building and the Mercat Municipal. There, they displayed banners with slogans such as "Manifesting at home is not a crime! Enough of police violence", "For the right to a dignified life", "Raising our voice is our right" and "Who sows misery reaps rage. Santa Maria shows the way".
The gathering took place in a relaxed atmosphere, with participation from people of all ages. One of the highlights was the arrival of Madò Farta, a well-known figure on the island, who was greeted with cheers. She carried slogans such as "Fed up with politicians who do nothing" and "This is just the beginning, don't back down", as she walked through the crowd.
During the event, the 'storyteller' Maria Monserrat read a manifesto demanding the "immediate resignation of the Government delegate, Alfonso Rodríguez, from the PSOE, for the completely disproportionate deployment". The Ajuntament of Palma was also criticized for the "numerous obstacles and hindrances to the holding of the event".
Cristina Vaquer, from the Menys Turisme, Més vida movement, intervened to inform that they are collecting photos and videos of the police actions from Sunday, and that they have already identified about 14 injured individuals, with the aim of filing a collective complaint. The collection of graphic material seeks to document the alleged excesses.
The event concluded with some verses related to the events by the local glosador Miquel Servera 'Boireta', and with the singing of La Balanguera by all present, led by the Felanitx singer-songwriter Maria Hein. The song, considered an unofficial anthem of Mallorca, marked the final touch to a day of advocacy.
The protest in Felanitx adds to other mobilizations that have taken place in different parts of the island following the incidents on Sunday. The organizers have announced that they will continue with protest actions until responsibilities are clarified and the right to peaceful demonstration is guaranteed.
For the residents of Felanitx, this Wednesday's gathering represents an opportunity to express their solidarity with the injured and their rejection of police violence.
