The Calvià Town Hall has launched a new promotional spot aimed at establishing the municipality as an important destination for the film industry and visual arts. This action is part of the Year of Cinema in Calvià, a campaign designed to boost the audiovisual industry through activities such as the ‘Calvià, Film Set’ route and the Conecta Magaluf event.
Highlighted locations in the new spot
In the spot, Balearic actor Toni Pons presents some of the most emblematic locations in the municipality. There is a tour of places such as Puig de Galatzó, Playa del Toro, the possessió of Son Vich Nou, the viewpoint of Illes Malgrats, and Puerto Portals. Using a humorous and appealing tone, various options for filming and visual productions are highlighted.
Impact on the local economy
Facilitating the attraction of film shoots is considered a key strategy to revitalise Calvià’s economy. The film industry generates both direct and indirect economic returns, reinforcing the institutional efforts made. Additionally, it promotes greater diversification of the local tourism model.
By hosting productions year-round, the audiovisual industry serves as an additional tool to de-seasonalise tourist activity, potentially attracting both visitors and professionals outside of the peak season.
Calvià Film Office, a department within the Town Hall’s Tourism area, is aligned with various networks such as Spain Film Commission, Illes Baleares Film Commission, and Mallorca Film Commission. This body offers a range of services aimed at facilitating audiovisual productions in the municipality, providing information and personalised advice.
Recently, Calvià hosted a Day of AI & Film, the AI Movie Awards (AIMA) festival, and the international forum CONECTA Magaluf. These events have placed Calvià at the centre of the global debate on Artificial Intelligence in the film sector, bringing together prominent professionals from the industry. Furthermore, the Town Hall has promoted the ‘Calvià, Film Set’ route, which allows visitors to discover the beaches and landscapes of the municipality, used as settings in multiple national and international productions.
