The Llucmajor Town Hall will limit circulation in s'Arenal, Son Verí and the Sanctuary of Gràcia on August 12, coinciding with the solar eclipse. The measures aim to ensure safety in light of the expected massive influx of visitors.
The municipality of Llucmajor is preparing to welcome thousands of people on August 12 due to the solar eclipse, an astronomical phenomenon that will make the area one of the best observation points on the island. To avoid congestion and ensure safety, the Town Hall has announced a special traffic restriction plan that will affect several coastal areas, including s'Arenal, Son Verí and the Sanctuary of Gràcia.
According to the Town Council, the forecast is that the influx of the public will be particularly high in the areas near the coast, where both locals and tourists are expected to gather to witness the eclipse. Therefore, the mobility plan includes access cuts and controls at strategic points, with the aim of allowing emergency services to operate without obstacles if necessary.
At the Sanctuary of Gràcia, one of the most emblematic sites, the usual access points from the Camí Vell de Gràcia and the Ma-5018 road will be closed. Drivers will need to seek alternative routes and only authorised vehicles will be allowed access.
In s'Arenal, restrictions will begin at 4:00 PM. From that time, only emergency services, public transport, residents of s'Arenal and Son Verí (with accreditation), property owners (with proof), local workers (with justification), and tourists with parking reservations at hotels in the area will be allowed to circulate in the zone. The streets Berga, Cabrera, and Terral will have restricted access from Dragonera, allowing entry to garages located between Dragonera and Formentera.
Recalde Street will remain closed from the Ma-6014 to Cedre, except for residents and emergencies. Baladre Street will be set up as a control point for residents, public transport, workers, and tourists with parking reservations. Additionally, it will be the access point for emergencies and pre-scheduled appointments at the Son Verí Hospital, so patients with appointments that day should allow extra time to arrive.
In Cala Blava and Bellavista, access via the Camí d'Enderrocat will be controlled, but passage will be allowed for emergencies, residents, public transport, property owners, workers, and tourists with reservations at the Cap Rocat hotel. To avoid congestion, access to the Maioris, Puig de Ros, and Sa Torre developments will be limited to three points, where the same authorised groups will be allowed, including tourists with reservations at hotels in Puig de Ros.
The Sa Pedrera de la Seu parking and the descent to the Badia Blava viewpoint will be closed when full, likely during the morning. Only emergency services will be allowed access to Bahía Azul and Bahía Grande. In Tolleric, access will be restricted solely to emergencies, residents, public transport, property owners, workers, and tourists with reservations at the local hotel.
The Town Hall has reminded that those who can prove they have made a reservation at hospitality establishments in the municipality, such as restaurants or bars, will also be able to access the affected areas without restrictions. This aims to balance commercial activity with safety measures.
To minimise inconvenience, the Town Council recommends that citizens stay informed through social media and local media, avoid using private vehicles unless absolutely necessary, and prioritise public transport. It also advises notifying expected visitors of the existing restrictions to avoid access issues and that supplies and deliveries should be made during the morning.
Hotel chains, shops, restaurants, and neighbourhood associations will be directly informed of these measures. Aqualand and the staff of the Ajuntament will also receive the corresponding notice. The security and mobility plan will be active throughout the day on August 12, and normality is expected to be restored by the end of the day, once the eclipse has concluded.
