The Son Servera Town Council has confirmed that the fire declared in Puig de Sa Bassa is under control, although it has not yet been extinguished. A large operation with firefighters, aerial resources, and volunteers is working in the area.

The forest fire that broke out this morning in the Puig de Sa Bassa, within the municipality of Son Servera, has mobilised a significant emergency operation that includes local police, the Civil Guard, Civil Protection, the Municipal Brigade, and local residents. Subsequently, the fire stations from Artà and Manacor, Ibanat brigades, and two aerial resources: a helicopter and a firefighting plane, joined the effort.

The mayor of Son Servera, Pep Servera, and the deputy mayor and police councillor, Bernat Grimalt, arrived at the scene from the first alert to coordinate municipal resources and support the firefighting teams. According to the council, the fire is under control, although it has not yet been extinguished, and the teams will remain in the area for monitoring and to prevent re-ignition.

A coordinated response to the fire

The rapid mobilisation of resources allowed the fire to be contained and not spread to nearby residential areas. Local residents assisted in the initial efforts, alerted by the smoke and the presence of emergency services. The Town Council thanked the citizen collaboration and the work of all the professionals involved.

Aerial resources carried out several water drops on the most active points, while ground brigades worked on creating firebreaks and cooling affected areas. The Civil Guard regulated access to the area to ensure the safety of the operatives and residents.

The danger of high temperatures

This fire occurs during a heatwave affecting Mallorca, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees and very low relative humidity, conditions that favour the spread of any ignition. Authorities remind the importance of taking extra precautions in natural environments and to immediately alert 112 at any sign of smoke or fire.

So far, no personal or material damage to homes has been reported, although the flames have affected an area of scrubland and pine forest. The Son Servera Town Council has activated the Municipal Emergency Plan and will continue to provide timely updates on the fire's progress.

Residents of nearby urbanisations have been warned via loudspeakers and Civil Protection messages to keep windows closed and avoid unnecessary travel. It is expected that firefighting efforts will continue for the next few hours until the fire is completely extinguished.
