Santa Ponça, Mallorca, is preparing to celebrate the Fiestas del rei En Jaume from August 26 to September 6, 2026. These festivities commemorate the 797th anniversary of the landing of King Jaume I's troops and will offer a varied programme of activities that integrates culture, music, tradition, and sport.
Highlighted events and activities
The celebrations will officially begin on Thursday, August 27, with a commemorative event at the Cruz de Santa Ponça, where Carlos Fuentes, rector of several parishes in the municipality, will be in charge of giving the opening speech. During these days, attendees will be able to enjoy the XXV Trobada de Gegants on August 29 and the 'Nit de Foc' on September 1, when the Dimonis de Calvià will illuminate the streets with fire.
The highlight of the festivities will take place during the first weekend of September. On September 4, there will be a Moorish parade, followed on September 5 by the landing of the Christian troops and a grand final battle on the beach of Santa Ponça. These events will attract hundreds of participants and symbolize the unity of the municipality around its history.
Medieval market and closure
Alongside the historical reconstructions, a medieval market will be set up in the streets of Santa Ponça from September 3 to 6. Music will also play an important role in the Plaza de la Pinada, which will offer a varied night programme during the festivities.
The closing of the celebrations is scheduled for September 6, with a spectacular fireworks display that will light up the bay of Santa Ponça at dusk. The mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, emphasizes the significance of these dates not only as a time for recreation but also as a reaffirmation of the municipality's identity and roots, inviting everyone to enjoy a festival that unites the community.
