Cala d'Or experienced the central day of its patronal festivities in honour of Santa Maria del Mar yesterday, with a solemn mass, offerings, and the traditional maritime procession that gathered numerous vessels.
The locality of Cala d'Or, in the municipality of Santanyí, celebrated the grand day of its patronal festivities in honour of Santa Maria del Mar yesterday, a date that annually brings together locals and visitors in one of the region's most deeply rooted traditions.
The events began with the Solemn Mass at the Parròquia de Cala d'Or, officiated with the participation of the parish choir. During the ceremony, members of the Escola de Ball de Bot de Cala d'Or made the traditional offering to the patroness, in a gesture that unites devotion and popular culture.
At the end of the religious service, the image of the Mare de Déu paraded through the streets of the town in procession until reaching the coast. The procession was accompanied by the sounds of the Banda de Música Adagio de Cala d'Or, which provided the soundtrack to a route followed by hundreds of worshippers.
The most awaited moment of the day was the maritime procession, in which numerous vessels from the area, adorned for the occasion, escorted the patroness during her navigation through the waters of the bay. The sight of the boats surrounding the religious image became one of the most emblematic postcards of these festivities.
From the organisation and the council of Santanyí, gratitude has been expressed to all the people, entities, groups, and fishermen who actively participated to make the success of this celebration possible, reinforcing Cala d'Or's bond with its maritime tradition.
With this day, the patronal festivities of Cala d'Or continue their programme of events, which will extend over the coming days with proposals for all audiences.
