Calvià, 11 August 2026. The Calvià Town Hall has established a set of recommendations to ensure safe viewing of the scheduled solar eclipse, avoiding mobility issues and crowds.

Recommendations to Prevent Crowds

Citizens are advised to avoid travelling to Santa Ponça and other observation points, especially by private vehicle. Those already in the area should plan their departure and stagger their return to prevent traffic jams and facilitate the movement of emergency services once the eclipse has ended.

Santa Ponça beach will have limited capacity, which will increase the likelihood of reaching maximum capacity quickly. For this reason, the Town Hall discourages travelling to this area from other parts of the island.

Security and Traffic Measures

The Calvià Local Police will deploy approximately 60 officers and establish six checkpoints to regulate traffic in the areas of highest attendance. The points where road closures or restrictions will occur include the Cala Figuera road and the roundabout access to El Toro, among others.

Traffic will be prioritised for emergency vehicles, public transport, and essential services. If the established capacity is reached, new vehicle access will be restricted.

Additionally, the Town Hall has discouraged access to viewpoints, cliffs, and risky areas due to the danger of landslides and falls. The Local Police may restrict access if necessary.

Given the high risk of wildfires, the public is urged to exercise maximum responsibility by avoiding behaviours that could cause fires, as well as respecting natural spaces and keeping visited areas clean.

For observing the eclipse, it is essential to use certified glasses and follow the relevant safety recommendations. The Town Hall will also provide boats to ensure maritime safety during the event.

The public is urged to follow the instructions of local authorities and to consult only official channels for the most up-to-date information.

Furthermore, the Town Hall has created a specific website dedicated to the eclipse, where all information related to safety recommendations and mobility will be centralised. It is recommended to visit this page to stay informed of any changes during the event.
